Any other non-major-label artist chart this high? Just wondering if Prince is the only artist not on a major label to chart in the top 10.

Tons. • Did you first think Prince was gay? •
Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

one of the most recent examples would be radiohead's "in rainbows"
reaching # 1 on US bilboard's 200 without being signed to a record company. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

nine inch nails released 2 independent albums to date which both charted
at # 1 in both the independent charts and the electronic charts in the US. however, both marginall failed to reach the top 10 on US billboard 200, "ghosts I-IV" peaked at # 14 and "the slip" peaked at # 13. and you have to consider radiohead released their album as a download on their own website with a "pay what you like or nothing at all" price and NIN released part I (the first cd) of Ghosts for free and then released the entire "the slip" album for free before producing hard copies and/or selling mp3s of the albums, much like radiohead did. all 3 went on to sell amazing numbers. even more remarkably high numbers considering everyone who bought a hard copy or a "retail" download had already had the music for quite a while. and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

oh, that's right
it seems prince has just decided that he wants to be in control of the internet instead of allowing the internet to dictate to him what is best for example ~ radiohead and NIN and many others have embraced the internet perhaps because they need to maybe prince does not need it? i mean, he can make more money doing one-day events than most artists can make in a year
