eye liked a short paperback Prince by Steven Ivory outdated but unbiased.
eye myslef read Possessed and hated it bcause it was so biased the same with Thieves in the Temple. Also read The Purple Reign by Liz Jones which was also 2 me a better read than the last 2 titles mentioned. If any1 has more suggestions on a good book please let me know eye 'd also b interested in reading a book that does justice 2 Prince.

yeah i think Possessed was written by one of those people who only appreciated Prince at his Purple Rain days (i.e height on his success) but failed to achknowledge that just because every single didnt get to the height of P.R doesnt mean they werent good quality music
lool but thanks for the response

DMSR is still my favorite. i think i just want to read more about the music and how it was made than about all the scandals and gossip.

DMSR is a good read. What comes across is the drive the guy had. Similarly, i read another book by Per and it chronicled Prince's career on an almost daily basis (upto '92). I was new to Prince when i read it and all i kept thinking was 'when will it say 'prince takes a 6mth holiday'? Mojo summed it up best when he described Prince as an 'unstopable, ever-moving one man storm'. The guys work ethic was jaw dropping back then.

Dave Hill´s " A Pop Life " rarely get mentioned here. It is out of print but it is one of the best Prince bios, IMO. The best books are those by Per Nielsen.
Alex Hahn´s book contains many errors but it is not as bad as people here often say.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

Pers books are excellent particularly "Prince: A Documentary". Per is listed as the editor-in-chief of the The Vault.

Prince: A documentary was 1990 (revised in 1993). The Vault was 2004 (the best Prince book I've seen).

Check out this link to dawnation which shows most of the books published on Prince

I've read parts of "D.M.S.R." and found it very nice of a read. I learned so much... but with Prince, I'm always learning new things falloff

It certainly would be nice to find out a book out there that's unbiased and the person actually knows what they're talking about.

I've heard "Possessed" has somewhat of a bias and Prince doesn't quite get the respect he deserves on it. But then again, when a guy turns around, changes his name to an unpronoucable symbol and his music seems to be on a downward spiral and you didn't know things were going to improve, what would you write? lol

Give me a couple years and hopefully nothing new will come out in the process that'll really throw off my game falloff
And I'll write one of my own thumbs up!
that gives the utmost respect for the musician. I can't guarantee it'll be unbiased falloff since I like almost everything. But I'll try to be honest tease

We need more books of him that I can actually find in a bookstore lol
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

I read the book and the writer is a fan of early Prince big time,
He also made optimistic comments about where Prince was at (at the time of the end of the book) I think Rainbow Children/Musicology

I read the book and he did deal with the behind the scenes stuff such as business decisions, unfinished projects etc
Prince didn't do right by the money he had access to. Didn't always listen to those who worked for him to help concerning spending and costs

I think it went beyond being a fan of Purple Rain mania

The book brought out behind the scene stuff concerning Sign o the Times, and I never understood back then why Sign o the Times was a short term era. Especially for all the good quality music on that album and possibiities. The SOTT was awesome, but not much done with it, especially not doing shows in the States, putting it on fill didn't bring in the money the tour would have
