Should Prince do another appearance on American Idol?

The last time he appeared there, his album 3121 went 2 number one; do u think if he appeared there 2 promote his new album, it would help him sell more albums? If so, what song would u like him 2 per4m from his new album? I'd say he should sing "Crimson and Clover"!!!

It was a novelty performance, and he won't do it again.

I didn't like the fact that he preformed the first time. Don't get me wrong i loved the performance, BUT Prince has been fighting for freedom as an musician for years. No contracts, ownership of his masters etc. Going on AI to me is like saying "ok I'm gonna go on and show support by preforming for everyone" The show is a competition to get a record contract and I'm pretty sure they arn't going to own their masters recordings.

But hey prince is prince and i ain't mad at him... i just get happy whenever i see him on TV lol

That whole record contract argument is old. He still has to promote his records, and A.I. or anything else is a venue for that. Should he not go on Leno because Leno has artists w/ record contracts on there? Or what about artists that might have a little vocal help from a backing track? Should Prince boycott because of that? Of course not. It's not him saying "I endorse record contracts."

He's said, in 1998, that he has no problems with record companies. They serve a purpose and they do it well, and it shows. He just choses to not be under a long term contract.

Ani Defranco is an indie artist, but you don't see her boycotting things based on her status as a long term indie artist. There's room for everyone.

And his A.I. performance was horrible. A duet of songs, the second of which was a big buzz kill. He should have brought the band out and played "3121" and jammed on that for a bit, or done "Guitar", which would have brought the house down. But "Lolita" to a backing track or the A.I. band? Pffft.

Wrong album...I agree with u however that he should have per4med 3121; the song sounds better live than the album; I'd also would have loved 2 hear him per4m Black Sweat!!

Yes, he should go on American Idol again..it's a no-brainer when the viewers are interested in music! Look at what he was able to do without a sound check or warm-up the last time! This time, with the proper preparations and killer songs...watch out.He is going to tear it up!
Wake up!......Wake up!

No, IMO he should have never appeared on it in the first place. A musician of Prince's caliber should never be associated with this rubbish.

ah well...since he has done it....why not do it again. But if he's gonna do it again...he should do the whole she-bang! have a prince night where the kids get to do his songs and he gets to coach them...I think he'd come off as real kind and genuine. I think it would be great for his "image"

Yes, I think he should go on Idol again. His performance on Idol in 2006 was wonderful and to do it again this year would be even better cause it can be planned as opposed to it being a surprise. He can show the kids how to work a guitar and all that! I'm down with Prince going back on American Idol.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I like it better as a one-off. Once you start getting into the American Idol '09, AI '11, etc., there is something less unique about it. Much easier to distinguish it from other public appearances when you don't go back to the same show.

On lotusflow3r, you have videos for AI and the Superbowl. I was thinking, do we really want an annual (or repeat) performances in these areas of large media exposure? I like that Prince tries to find various ways to get his music out.

Give me a Prince week first and then we'll talk wink

Seriously if Michael Jackson, everyone's favorite freak, gets a week for his catalog, why not Prince? hmph!
Who's the better of the two? The one who's always true to the MUSIC? That's what American Idol is about: performing MUSIC.
The fact they have people like Flo Rida and Kayne West performing says they need some actual musical talent. Including a band and instrumental solos and all that stuff.

Prince can get away without mentoring the contestants and I'd be fine with a week dedicated to his work.

While it would be AWESOME if he performed again, 1) I'm not really counting on it and 2) he really doesn't HAVE TO lol

Unless of course he wants to and to say something like "y'all trippin' bout the music industry... this isn't how to run the business" falloff
They are getting better this year though because they're actually looking for originality instead of just having a great voice.

I got my sights on Kris, but don't know if he's got the popularity to back it up. And if they have a week of purple music, best hope that nobody ruins any of them (that means you, Adam [takes aim])
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
