I picked up The Rave In2 LP from the post 2day and after a few listens at Beautiful I didn't anderstand why do you guys praise this song so much. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike this song, I think its cool 2 listen to when ur in the mood but I think that its very overrated. Maybe becoz I don't know whats the meaning behind it.

Are you kidding me Prince's Guitar work is Amazing and it's a Hypnotic -Psychedelic Piece. It is one of Prince's best songs. It's Trance-like and Trippy and Way Cool.

I don't get it either. The video version is slightly different, but i'm not a huge fan of either version.

You've just got to hear the version from the Celebration on 25/6/02. It's "harder" and the fguitar work is great.

Listen to the ONA Buffalo Aftershow version. "Then you will find the reason"

I just heard the Dallas aftershow version & oooh lordy. The best I've heard was at The HOB aftershow, still smiling from that gig.

my favorite is from the celebration...although i'm also quite partial to the lakeland soundcheck version, seeing as i was there and all...

this song is strangely beautiful

I've obsessed on this song big time. If I had to put my finger on it, I would say the overall vibe. It's hypnotic and different than anything else. I've heard some of the aftershow versions but on Rave it's pure.

I'm no musician (I'll leave that to Prince) so perhaps I'm unqualified to answer this.
It's just simply SUCKS you in. I love its' beautiful, dreamy soundscapes; I 'hear' a thousand colours when I listen to this track and the ORIGINAL - not 'Rave..' version - is by FAR the best. A real trip.
Incidentally, a friend of mine - who isn't particularly 'into' Prince - hear this and was blown away! It has magical properties.

That is my Favorite song along with his Undertaker Jams. Prince playing Guitar is just So Exciting. It's Psychedelic and freaky and a song that you should Practice the Karma Sutra to. Enjoy Sex and Prince doing Beautiful Strange and go Crazy. It's so Trippy... I think Prince's music was Designed for Sex and Erotic Encounters...

YES!!! The NIGHTTOWN version was really something great!. All this emotion in his playing, his face had some really funky exciting look during this very long guitar part. He was really into this one. He trew the guitar in the air and the sound just started to howl through the club. The most fantastic Prince moment of my life was this verion of beautiful strange...so don't touch my song!! Or I'll kick yo ASS!

Maybe my description was a bit pretentious (!) but that's what I feel. It gives me the same rush as 'Joy In Repetition' - an otherwordly vibe. If he released an album of tracks like this I'd be a very happy man.

The official version features on the 'Rave IN2 The Joy Fantastic' remix album (only released via the NPGMC). The original version can be found on the 'Beautiful Strange' video (where P is interviewed by Mel B).
