It's not bad, but it's been done before and it's one of the weaker links on the album. IMO that's why it probably doesn't get much of a look in (although I've seen at least 3 or 4 threads about it, so the appreciation is there).

Exactly. It's surrounded by material that leaves it in the dust.

I like this song, although I do feel it's the weaker track from the 3 cd's...I liked the live version from Jay Leno much better, the song had more energy in a live setting.
On the show, Prince and the band sand, Feel Good...Feel Better...which I believe sounds better.

Because as U are saying Better, it uplifts the song there...when Good is the second word in the line, the emotion of feeling wonderful is somewhat consciously interrupted, not to mention going from two syllables to one...From Better to Good. cool

Just to mention, it is the letter "d." That letter on the end of any word...stops a sentence. Grammatically and coincidentally in the word end...as also with "GOD."

Said.
Mad.
even, Friend. The letter, "d," can chop a sentence...which is powerful, depending on how it is used....Period. cool

One more thing about the letter, "d," and then class will be over...

Prince uses this technique perfectly in, "Colonized Mind," as Prince sings, "Without God. It's just the Blind. Leading the Blind." cool

I love this song since 2006!!
(we could listen to part of it on the NPGMC)
So I was really happy that he release this song.
I think it is the most funky tune that he wrote in the 21st century. biggrin

It's overly homogenized 'funk'. Musically, it's not multi-faceted (sounds like a single instrument/computer performed it). There might be more than one musician/instrument on the recording... but overproduction killed any complementary contrasts.

It's a kidz-bop version of earlier works like 'Life Can Be So Nice', 'It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night'.

Other pet peeves: Artists who harmonize with their own voice.

Dear P.: Please splurge on complementary voiced backup singers... oh, the good old-days.

Amen.

It could work fine like in Forever in My Life if you keep the number of tracks down to a reasonable level. I've been trying to tell Prince this since 1988. He just wont listen.

Prince has harmonized with his own voice since the beginning!

I don't get either of your points, the pair of you.

How the heck should his backing vox be done in the studio then exactly? You've ruled out the only two options! lol

Sure but back in the day (going as far back as "For you") he had a limited number of tracks, plus he used others much more (Wendy mostly). But since about Lovesexy its like a "wall of sound" made up of Prince's voice. Thunder is probably the most egregious example of this.

re:

He (and most artists) should find(invest in) up and coming vocalists that offset his own vocals in a way that embraces the 'rule of thirds'...

Formula:

P: three fouths of the vocals (falsetto...other)...
Backup: 1/4 the vocal time w/a voice that's distinct, complements, and piques interest...

I like the order of feel better, feel good, feel wonderful, that's usually the way it happens when I have a cold.

...expectin' me to freak on you a little bit more...

I like the way the hornz and base are so tight on this jam.

...keep your mind in a vertical motion, always looking up...

I think the song is ok. Wouldnt go screaming into the streets about it, but definitely dont mind the song. Definitely think the song is suited for live extended or mixed funk jam. Would guess that he would make the song very funky or very heavy if he decides to work this into a regular live setlist.
