When Listening To A New Prince CD.....

do you find yourself comparing the new songs to something that Prince has already released? For instance, I'll be listening to a new Prince jam, and I'll think to myself, "The guitar in this song reminds me of the Prince song (insert song title here)". I sometimes wish I didn't do this, because I kind of drive myself crazy. lol But maybe when you've been a Prince fan for a long time, like I have, you tend to hear some similarities in some of his songs. Does anybody do this, or is it just me?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

It's hard not 2, but I don't limit the comparisons 2 just Prince songs. Like "Dreamer" - I heard that and thought of Hendrix immediately. And "Dance 4 Me", I thought of Midnight Star's "No Parking On The Dance Floor".

I hear ya. I tend to compare Prince's "Colonized Mind" to sounding like a Jimi Hendrix song. Not sure which one, but "Colonized Mind", to me, has a Jimi vibe to it.

At this point he is cpying himself in many ways, even conciously by trying to recapture the controversy sound. It can't be helped.

I really try to assess each album as its own thing. I find, sometimes, that certain songs will evoke feelings that are similar to those I experienced with earlier releases. But I try not to compare albums or individual tracks.

I enjoy the similar song styles, that is what I like, now if Prince started sounding heavy metal I would know somethin wasn't right

Dreamer definitely sounds like Voodoo Chile, Dance 4 me sounds like some stirred up ol skool & new skool Prince, I hear a little B52's in there too.

I don't really do that. I don't consciously think of it. If I DO have that thought, it's because the "oh, that reminds me..." is really strong in the song. But when I hear "Boom", am I thinking of "Darling Nikki" or something? Nope.

I do it thumbs up!

had a bunch of instances like that when I listened to Lotusflow3r. Things from certain songs reminded me of his previous works. And sometimes it takes me a while to figure out where I'd heard that similar sound b4 (and it keeps my attention away from the song itself falloff )
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone
