The Screams Of Passion

Hi,
Could anybody please clear something up for me? On the Girl 6 album is Prince singing the vocals for 'The Screams Of Passion?' I only ask as I know that it was sung originally by The Family.

No, it's the same version as on The Family LP.

I love his voice on this. I'm not quite sure how Prince would have sounded. Interesting?

clarification:

i mean i think of all paul's tracks, he sounds the best on this one.

prince's vocal takes are floating around. i can't remember if this was one of them or not, but i do remember liking the ones i remember.

If you read the album liner notes, it says that The Family sings it, even on the Girl 6 soundtrack. They're all just Prince, Vanity 6, or The Family songs on there.

I too think St Paul did really good on this one

I'm listening 2 it now, and the rehearsal of this song by Prince and the Revolution sounded really good, but that is Prince and the Revolution
It sounds different than the Family good
Definately a reminder of why Prince with the Revolution in the studio can't be touched. Talk about the Minneapolis sound + Parade vibe, so intimate and foundational to Prince music...

If only videos had the 80's creativity

Just about everything now is a copycat of someone elses video or show

probably about the same. Paul says that Prince worked him over making him sing all those songs exactly like he would.

which begs the question... why didn't he just release it as his own album? I really wish he had. he definitely could have gotten away with it in 1985.

Right.. it's so obviously Paul doing his best Prince impersonation that I wish Prince would have just done a final mix with his own. I think I only prefer Paul's because I'm so used to it and it's not a demo/rehearsal quality track. Besides, everybody knows Sheila does the best Prince vox (Hollyrock)!

ACtually there is an unreleased studio rehearsal of this tune. he doent sound bad...the music is quite different and he mumbles some of the lines he havent yet mastered. its' about 8 minutes long.

would i be right in saying that prince has never sung this in concert? I have about 15-20 live albums from this peroid and have never seen it on a set-list. I'm surprised as he normally likes to reclaim his work.

Yeah it's really good
an intimate peak into the Prince & the Revolution studio workouts where they would go hours on a song just trying out different sounds and riffs

Ordinary song. Very over-rated IMO. It's always struck me as a 'Prince-Pop-Conveyor-Belt-Throw-Away' lazy piece. P did the right thing to toss it to someone else.

I have a version of "The Screams of Passion" where Prince is singing the lead vocal. It is absolutely divine, even better than St. Paul's version. Prince sings it with such feeling in his voice. And Lisa on the organ. cloud9
