gosh, a UK law student who obviously hasn't read a British newspaper or watched the news over the last 10 years. UK universities still the best in the world? with our appalling funding levels, abysmal academic salaries and ridiculous system of student funding our universities have been in decline for a looong time.

Class action suits are for real cases.
This case is laughable at best and is more suitable for that Celebrity Court show.

In my opinion the NPGMC Year 2 issue has two sides:

- the legal one

potential claims can be based on "the offer" included in the ONA Tour - still, if it has legal grounds (I'm a lawyer, however from a continental Europe and the legal system here is different, therefore I cannot opinion this on the basis of the Anglo-Saxon law), this claim can be difficult to be proved - one has to provide the evidence that she or he joined on the basis of "this offer". If you joined in February 2002 - no case.

other claim (like the one I might have) based on the fact I have not received ONA Piano Album (and I joined in January 2002) so far. In any way, receiving the album with ONA Live (which I did) does not resolve this issue. Apparently, ONA Piano Album is a part of ONA Live. Since members receive ONA Piano Album and ONA Live - I should get both.

- the ethical one

It doesn't matter if one has got a case or not. The point is that NPGMC the business company operated poorly, as shown by the following examples:

- very poor customer service
- the servers practically were down when you wanted to purchase the show tickets - the number of cuss words I used that day should suffice for the rest of my life smile
- the total mess with shipping ONA Live
- NO INFORMATION

Obviously, none of these matters can give the slightest grounds for legal action. But they do effect the way members perceive the club and its workings. And the estimation is really low, as the posts here on org clearly show. I'm pretty sure this situation does not satisfy none of the parties: the members and Prince.

I'm pretty sure that if these issues had not existed, people would not be complaining now. They would listen to their music and enjoy the experience.

Of course I have no idea why these issues occured. I believe it's a combination of:

- lack of business experience
- maybe too little respect for the members (although hard to believe when you think how friendly Prince was at the soundchecks)
- Prince's own character - too mysterious for standard business operations
- maybe some greed for money when the business wasn't entirely thought out.

I don't know and I guess none of us will ever do. At the same time, however, none of them can be used as an excuse.

Naturally, we all hope for an improvement. I do believe that the improvements might come, however I am skeptical on how many people will be willing to join next year. Definitely, I'm going to hold and see what is happening. I'm not that much eager (as I was at the beginning of 2002) to provide Prince with money upfront again. At least I won't have to face the poor customer service.

However, I have absolutely no complaints concerning the price of NPGMC. Considering the overall concept of the club (an association of people sharing the love for Prince's music), plus the perks plus the CD's I think it was well worth the money. For me it is not an issue what was delivered for this price (generally speaking - personally I'm still waiting for my ONA Piano Album but NPGMC is not yet overdue in providing me one) but how. And this definitely can and should be improved.

sorry for the long post

It's hard for me to understand why anyone would go to the BBB over a 100.00 that they gave to Prince. What do you want for a hundred dollars? Everything under the sun?

One soundcheck and one front row seat to a concert was worth that.Besides there is a lot more things to worry about in life. You can either be happy or misserable it's up to you.

A few things:

  • going to the BBB is a little extreme IMO: it's not like we didn't get ANYTHING we paid for, just not all the things we thought we would based on the way they advertised Year 2. For $100, a GREAT concert experience & a nice amount of music, I'm not willing to go that far. I'll complain for change though, maybe I'm a sucker...

NPGMC promised 4 CD's, they delivered 4 Cd's.

NPGMC promised priority seating, they delivered priority seating.

NPGMC promised exclusive members only soundchecks, they delivered exclusive members only soundchecks.

NPGMC promised free aftershow access to members, they delivered free aftershow access to members.

NPGMC promised a members only retail section, they delivered a members only retail section.

Both reasonably and legally there is not a valid cause for complaint.

NPGMC DID provide exclusive content;

How were members only priority seats NOT exclusive?

How were members only soundchecks NOT exclusive?

How were free passes to aftershows and afterparties NOT exclusive?

How was the members only Celebration NOT exclusive?

How was the members only Retail Section and the opportunity to purchase 'Days of Wild in Montreal' NOT exclusive?

How was the members only section of NPGMC with tour photographs NOT exclusive?

How was receiving the 'ONA' piano CD in May NOT exclusive?

How is receiving the 'ONA ..Live!' Box-set before it is released to retail outlets NOT exclusive?

Perhaps those 'people' that are filing complaints would like to address those points regarding 'exclusivity'.

They will just end up ruining the club for those of us that DO enjoy it.

If these individuals are pursueing a refund I certainly hope thay are made to return their merchandise.

Although I agree with you on other points, this one I do not. Getting it before 'the buying public' doesn't make it exclusive. It's at best a bonus. If it were to be delivered to every member before it hits the stores, which unfortunately isn't the case.

Its worth $100 dollars to be able shell out more $$$ on a concert ticket which is already much more expensive than most other major artists tickets? (as well as cutting out the middleman... that should make it cheaper right? or perhaps not.)

And he would be doing a soundcheck whether you are there or not... what a great idea.. charge ppl a at least the price of a regular concert ticket ($100 minus the cost of ONAL) to sit in on the soundcheck! (some other bands do this as well... without making you fork out $100 in advance)

I'm sure you enjoyed it. But u were taken to the cleaners.

Seriously, if you'd read any of my posts on the matter you'd know that I feel for those who are disatisfied, I don't like every decision the club has made yet I'm pretty satisfied w/ the club overall. I simply don't feel strongly enough about the snafu's (general seating, repeat ONA disk, no Xenophobia, no DVD) to run to the BBB. I'm not criticizing those that do write their letters, it's just not what I choose to do...

Also, sentences work - you should try them biggrin

It would be amusing if they did that. They cant even keep track of their customers, let alone their detractors.

I wouldn't really care because my interest in him is waning anyhow, and I had no intentions of signing up again.

and how many times have you heard of Prince letting all the "hot" women do all kinds of shit at his shows or at the Park? hell! i've heard that sometimes they only let in all the girls have the "too much makeup" prerequisite in while everyone stands out in the subzero weather waiting to be thrown a bone, such as whether or not there's even going to be a show.

and a one week celebration!!!

could one of u plz explain how u can complain and what for??

plz dont dare say coz "we didnt get xenophobia"!

it isnt confirmed that such an album exists in entirety so how could prince release it!

it doesnt say that we would receive them in 2002 it says "JOIN THE CLUB" to get access to these titles!

I agree with you! If Prince didn't have a club, then people would complain that they haven't heard this or that and that Prince should release SOMETHING to keep us quiet!! And when he releases NEW stuff they still complain because they want the OLD stuff...He is the entertainer, he is the brains behind what happens at NPGMC. He is not the enforcer...there are others who do that...stop cursing his efforts and applaud him for what he has done!!!

Its the $100 and the nature of the club thats causing problems. I'm all for an artist trying to exist independently from record companies.

But when Prince creates a club with vague promises and collects $100 a pop off his fans, thats just asking for trouble.

If Prince was clearer from the get go about what exactly was going to be released, exactly where he would be touring, and exaclty when the stuff would be mailed, then those who don't consider it worth the money would have opted not to sign up in the first place, and would not be complaining now.

I would not have signed up for year two knowing how it was going to turn out now. Back then I didnt know, because the information provided on the site was vague and sparse.

He should have the clubs offerings all pulled together and ready to go before he starts taking his fans money, that would clear up 95% of the complaints instantly.
