This is an honest question w/ no sarcasm. I swear.

Can someone please identify for me why it is "The morning after" is a song that should be appreciated on a Prince album, and isn't just a cheap throwaway that sounds like it was made in a couple hours and better left as a bootlegged demo?

Standing on its own - the song strikes me in how bad it sounds, especially when compared to so many STRONG and GOOD songs on the 3cd set. This one just makes me think "why, when you've left so many amazing songs off albums, did you keep this one on!" (I thought the same thing about some songs on planet earth, but before that almost NEVER felt that way about any prince song on any released album)

However, I am definitely open to someone giving me their opinion as to why they like it!! Because while art should stand on its own, sometimes hearing a different perspective can change your own so as to appreciate what you may otherwise not. So thanks for the input.

Quite a few people here dont like it, which I dont really understand, but then again alot of folks like There'll never b another like me, which I think is a boring monotonous track, IMO worst track on the 3 cd's. Probably just a taste thing. I find The morning after short and bubbly and i stress the word short coz if it were any longer it would probably get on my nerves

lol i really kinda like this song. every time prince sings "the morning after" i say "pill" so i personally when singing this song add pill in there and change the lyrics it's quite funny

I was relieved when I heard this track.

Thankfully proving that the huge steaming pile of horse sh!t that was 'The One U Wanna C' was just an aberration, and that he is still capable of writing fantastic simple, well constructed pop.

Sound wise, it's got the best drum sound on the album IMO. Nice and raw,

I dont mind it.

Its better than other "guitar throwaway" tracks like "I like it there" or Cinnamon Girl.

Its got a nice Monkeys or Paisley Underground vibe to it.

I love the song. It is what it is... old school Prince pop. Same vein as Do Yourself A Favor, On Your Own, Neon Telephone, Girl O' My Dreams, etc.

It's a great song. Short and sweet and the lyrics are cute..

This was my favorite track on the download version, I find it a thousand times better than his crappy remake of Crimson and Clover that everyone else seems to love for some reason. Perhaps cuz they never heard the Tommy James version. I also loved "The one u wanna c". I guess I don't know good music.

I love this song. I think Prince is just having some fun isn't that allowed? Not every song has to be serious in order to be valid it is a song to rock out too and maybe play one day if your in that bind.

I like the video, but I never understood what the heck he meant on the song either.
