PRINCE IS A MYSTERY TO ME ??? just dont understand him.....he does 21 sell out concerts in london and gives away 3 million copies of his planet earth album in a sunday newspaper generating mass interest in prince and his music again here in the uk after years of next to nothing then what does he do.....
.....he releases some of his best music since the mid 90s in a 3 cd package and you cant get it here ????.....unless you can get an import copy somewhere for the rip-off price of 30 pounds (about 45 dollars)..... i just dont get it....

Pathetic juvenile response! I agree with u Blackbob.Being a Prince fan is frustrating, annoying & embarrassing at times. What with the crappy covers performed live, talentless proteges,no videos 4 singles.wrong choice of singles, name changes, cancelled gigs/tours,cancelled fanclubs etc etc. IMO this is his best studio album in a decade & it seems as tho it`s going 2 sink without trace outside the US.2 not have a simultaneous international release beggars belief & forces loyal fans 2 pay over the odds thru ebay or 2 download illegally. This must rank as one of the biggest career mistakes he has ever made! So either fans lose money or Prince does?? In the UK Prince was riding a wave of adulation so this is a massive missed opportunity.Maybe part of the Target deal was that it will be released in a few weeks but it will be 2 late then which is a great shame as this album could have been huge & it deserves much more recognition! Hold On 2 Ur Wigs!

it's P, what can you say!.Musicology and P.Earth were executed perfectly from a marketing point of view.

Good point, OP,
It sometimes seems that since he left WB he is making totally irrational choices. Especially when it comes to the marketing of his material. I mean: he did gain mainstream attention again with the Musicology album and tour, but he did throw most of that away with his bad promotion of 3121 and Planet Earth after that. Thinkabout it... wrrong single choices (not entirely new), or not releasing official singles and video's at all. Creating a hype for 'something' like Chelsea Rodgers, for what? Bringing out his new 3 CD-set, and only selling it to one retailer in the USA (doesnt he want the money from the European or Asian fans, or something?), etc. Also on an artistical level it is often hard to follow what he is doing. Altough that is a debatable issue of course (tastes differ, etc.). But I mean: multi-CD sets like Emancipation, Crystal Ball and (yes, IMO also) this new one, scream for 'quality control'. He tries to do a 'Santana' with Rave and all the guest stars on the album, while you hear his heart and soul are definitely not into it. He follows it up with some of the most obscure albums in his career (The Rainbow Children, NEWS), which seem to be made for himself in the first place. I know that Prince has always been erratic and a often a 'walking contradiction' during his career (releasing ATWIAD right after Purple Rain, for example, the contrasts between the movies Purple Rain and UTCM), but in the past I felt, those 'weird' choices were at least more 'grounded' (in common sense?), wether on an artistic level or a business level. I was recently thinking could it INDEED be, that Prince fares better when he has not all the 'freedom' he desires. Maybe he needs a record company like Warners or a rather down to earth manager like Alan Leeds, to guide him in some aspects of his career. Maybe he indeed needs musicians like Wendy and Lisa, or Eric Leeds, who dare to say like things: that song is rather generic, don't put it on the album, or, hey, watchout, don't overproduce your material (at least from Leeds i know he was definitely not the kind of musician in the ilk of: yes, Prince, good Prince, youre a genious) On the other hand: as long as he is fine with the choices he makes as a 'free' musician, and he makes a lot of money with it (he probably cashed in on the Musicology tour, the 21 nights concerts, the newspaper deal and the Target deal), well... it are his choices. And, there are lots and lost of great musicians to listen to otherwise...
