Dark vs. So Dark

Ok, in the thread entitled "So lets revisit the Crystal Ball Era" someone mentioned that So Dark is more accessible. I just about flipped.

I argue that the soul of the crystal ball version is stripped when the horns are removed. Terrible version that does not improve on the original as the liner notes say.

My vote is for Dark hands down.

The version on Come is so much better. The Come-version on a scale of 1-5 is almost a 5 while the Crystal Ball-version is a weak 3. Was really surprised what he did to this song on Crystal Ball.

love the version on Come. the CB version, "So Dark" has been hammered into the Emancipation/NPS-era sound and completely kills it for me. all of the life and soul have been sucked out of the song. in fact, i hate it.

Exactly. It almost makes you think that P doesn't truly understand when he is brilliant. I don't like it when he adds to much color to dark things (ex. his live version of Nothing Compares to U).

With So Dark he removed the very essence of the song.

So Dark by a long shot. Dark just seems bland by comparison.

Dark from the Come album of course.

One of the better songs on that album, and a nice, sober old-school soul/R&B ballad (lovely bridge also)

The plastified version on Crystal Ball does nothing to me.

I prefer So Dark. I liked the electronic beats on So Dark compared to the live ones. It felt more "dark" then on the one from "Come".

I prefer "Dark" by a wide margin. "So Dark" sounds completely generic in comparision. I would imagine it was supposed to be the single remix (wasn't "Dark" originally slated as the next single from the "Come" album?) and when that didn't happen, he made use of the remix on the CB set.

My vote is on DARK. SO DARK is way overproduced.

Well, yes and no. It's a fairly stripped down track, but I guess any production changes from the original could definitely be described as over production.

So Dark is my choice its far more catchy and with that remix its far more accesible. I find Dark quite dull, boring and bleak nod
