Which, as we all know was always in him. It's only magnified and worsened now that religion is added on top of it. Instead of obsessing on a good band and practicing the music til it's schorching the eardrums out of people's heads he's turning his attention where it shouldn't be. The same genius that created whole amazing albums by himself and led band efforts down places like Lovesexy and Gold Experience has the time and wherewithal to harrass some poor lady who posted a video of her baby dancing to his music? Prince needs to be bitchslapped back into reality. Unfortunately until he faces some kind of legal trouble for doing things the wrong way, it won't happen.

There has been alot of discussion here recently about the 80s versus now Prince, but fact is, that raw energy that he displayed, particularly on the Lovesexy tour, has rarely ever shown up again apart from the Gold tour. Odd thing about the Lovesexy tour was, it was not well recieved in America because of its preachy nature.

The ONA tour followed the release of the TRC album, and from what I saw on the Aladdin DVD, it certainly didnt set my world on fire, same can be said of ONA live, apart from the aftershow. So he must somehow restrain himself, why he does it I will never know, but I know from what i experienced in London in 2007, that the side he tries to contain, pops up now and again and wreaks havoc, like the good ol days.

Totally disagree, first in part because you are comparing a man that at one point is in his 20's and then to another in his 40's, so i dont care WHO you are, that energy of being a 20 year old and sort of a rebel isnt there when you are in your 40's. Second i argue that PRINCE was a FAR better musician and HAD A MUCH BETTER band on the ONA tour, as someone that saw both shows, being at them and aftershows, you cant compare the musicianship of Prince on ONA tour, because that PRINCE blows 80's Prince away simply. As for the PRINCE people remember dancing and doing splits, well notice PRINCE does not dance anymore, and that is attributed to an injury back in 1998, when he had a bad abkle injury, that combined with getting older ended the "splits" Prince.

As for LOVESEXY it didnt fail in the US due to preaching, it failed due to the banning of the album cover, and just in general there wasnt a single that could be marketed to ALL MARKETS after Alphabet Street, he simply was flooding the market and interest in him was diminishing, his HONEYMOON period of 1999.Purple Rain,ATWIAD,Parade and Sign o the times, he was just losing the crowd who joined on with Purple Rain.

not that this makes any difference or will change your perfectly reasonable personal preference, but i'm a classically trained musician and i think prince was doing just fine in the '80s.

Around The World In A Day pretty much kicked the PR crowd to the curb and Parade and SOTT sold similarly in the US. LoveSexy just wasn't a very commercial release. As experimental as SOTT was it still had some great serviceable tracks. LoveSexy didn't and he chose some really odd singles from what was there.

it did fall flat in the u.s. but 'lovesexy' was a number 1 album in the u.k. and was very popular in europe.

.. and I think Europeans in general are probably less concerned with "commercial" music and can appreciate good music for what it is. wink LS had double the sales outside the US.

I have seen some say that Lotusflow3r should have come after Rainbow..., and I was in agreement...but then today I thought - what if this album woulda come before Rainbow, then how would it have been received?

Actually what's nonsense and ridiculous is that you admit it is what each person feels and then you criticize people that want to discuss what they feel on a discussion forum. lol

i mean it in the sense that we can go on with this comparing one song/ album to others for ever and ever and ever with princes catalog at some point it is ridiculous, what i may love , u may hate however we still have the common bond which is prince and his music.

I don't see anything in your reply that provides an example of what you consider a less "ridiculous" discussion. Surely you don't expect us all to just sit silently "in front of" the org and meditate on our universal prince bond.

Why not ignore the threads you don't like and create/partake in threads you would enjoy better?

what ever my point is i can start a thread about the song 'for u" vs"every prince song out there" every other day.. it get repetitive. I think the fans are far more intelligent then to compare two song versus simply discussing just one song! ya dont' like my statement stop replying to them and go take shower

no i'm not criticising that either, i'm saying lets discuss one song instead of repeating ourselves over and over and over and over. Duh get clue, but then again u are in ohio. Too early to say.

But @ this stage I think the difference between the 2 is "The Last December". As good as Lotusflow3r is, there's nothing quite like that on there.

Having sad that, Lotusflow3r is a tad more listenable than TRC.

now u said the same thing basically that i shouldn't reply if i disagree. so therefore u and me are in a catch 22. So lets end it, or go out for shots, shoot some pool, drink jager and agree to disagree, i love ya cuz ur just as stubborn as me. But i think we both made our points.

LF is great and I'm liking it the more I hear it. However, for me it can't and shouldn't be compared too TRC. TRC is so musically rich whereas LF is more stripped down. Seeing this thread made me listen and again appreciate just how good TRC is. Yes lyrically it might not be your bag (and it's not mine), but for me it takes nothing away from the top, top quality songwriting and musicianship of that album.

Take away the narratives and the silly Wedding Feast, and musically it's probably the best he's done. In fact, make all the songs instrumental and compare that to any other release instrumentally and I don't think it's bettered.

The Rainbow Children is a disaster of an album: Way overrated among here (in terms of songwriting / production) and of course the horrific lyrics and darth vader nonsense doesnt help either: 4/10

Lotusflower is okay: 7/10

Although i am loving the new albums i have to say TRC is a different league.

As someone said earlier in this thread it was like Prince was compelled to make this record and didnt give a fuck if it only sold one copy.

Plus it has The Everlasting Now on it, some of the best shit ever. Lets not also forget the ONA tour which kind of goes hand in hand with TRC.

For someone who STILL isn't convinced about the brilliance of The Rainbow Children (ME, that is) can anyone please explain?

I know, the (JW-fired) lyrics and the darth vader-like voice arent popular by everyone. But, even, by excluding those, can anyone explain me what makes The music on the Rainbow Children so great?

One thing I admit, to hear a more organic, quasi-live sound on the album was a fresh breath (after the 'plastic overdose' of Emancipation, New Power Soul and Rave).

But in terms of songwriting / compositions i still don't 'see' a masterpiece in the Rainbow Children.

The first two songs on the album simply borrow boring seventies jazz-rock / fusion (Weather Report, Chick Corea) for music that goes 'nowhere' (just like the opening and closing track on Lotusflow3r do).

She Loves me for me and Muse to the Pharaoh are nicely 'clad', but compositionwise its Prince on auto-pilot.

1+1+1=3 is a rather lame pastiche of Erotic City.

The Work is: Prince doing his obligational James Brown-tribute.

Everywhere, The everlasting Now and the Last December are well composed and played songs IMO, but they carry a way to big sense of paranoia and religious
brainwashing with them, that makes it unsettling and unpleasant for me to listen to.
Its like Prince is not really 'feeling' what he is singing and it somehow gives me the creeps.

Please explain.
