The Rainbow Children vs Lotusflow3r

Seen as Lotusflow3r appears to be getting positive reviews and many saying it is Princes best album of the decade and many including myself making comparisons to The Rainbow Children. I am curious what others think.

I am still abit undecided, as I havent really explored TRC thoroughly, it was also one of the only Prince albums that I probably got months after its release, granted it was difficult to get in Europe non stop.

Anyway, will be interested in your thoughts.

this new mixed bag of hit or miss mess pales in comparison to the rainbow children. religious blasts to the head or not, trc is prince at his most inspired and creative in years. the energy was there and the emotion as was the obvious lack of desire to be "cool" or "hip". the best songs on lotusflower make me think the same thing...too bad there's just so few of those songs.

i'm hard on Prince's new material but "$", "colonized mind", and "boom" are good songs..."wall of berlin" has a nice arrangement... "no more candy 4 u" and " dance 4 me" still show he still can right a fine melody.

I dunno.

A lot of the folks liking M-Sound are the same ones who praise TRC.
So think it just has to do with having cheesy taste buds.

i agree with u super that lotusflow3r is inconsistent as his last 3 releases have been.. i dig this album on a whole a little more than the last 3... the bottom line is prince will never create anything classic overall ever again

the problem with prince is he will have 2 good songs back to back and then go on tangets that brings his albums down... lovesexy was good becuase the theme carried at from beginning 2 end... he seems 2 lose focus... or maybe doesn't have enough consistent ideas

TRC is digital toilet paper for The Gold Experience, which is by far Prince's best guitar album. Lotus Flow3r is a neighbor asking for some help.

I love like Lotusflow3r, but I LOVE TRC....

TRC is where it's at. And if you don't know, then you are at a loss.

I dunno dude, that's two heavyweights right there...like comparing 1999 against Purple Rain.

All are top 5 in my book.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I loved The Rainbow Children, I still remember downloading it from the then site, it taking ages for some reason and then listening to it through my headphones and I was like 'WoW', to me you could feel Prince creativity in full force on the album.
Was it approachable to the everyday public as opposed to the Prince fan, probably not, I mean the majority of us know to sometimes expect the unexpected with Prince (The Wedding Feast for example) but not so others.

I too hear elements of the Rainbow Children in parts of Lotusflow3r, and yes I am really enjoying it and think it is a great album, putting the two together I can see that Lotusflow3r would probably appeal to a wider audience.

Is one better then the other? Too me The Rainbow Children is something of a private journey whereas lotusflow3r is probably a journey I could share.

I enjoy lotus flower and i think it's an album which i will continue to return to over time. However, it does feel patchy in some places (which isn't necessarily a bad thing with a Prince record). Alternately, The rainbow Children is a solid, concise, dogmatic piece of purple f*ck you. Prince in the zone.. his zone. The record serves only to tell it's story, not to sell, not tagged onto some gimmick. I don't think prince cared if he only sold one copy. This record feels like he was compelled to make it regardless.

The Rainbow Children, i think, is a better album. Ill never forget the first time i heard that album. It blew my mind away. Lotusflow3r caught my eye but it didnt blow my mind. After almost 2 weeks, im loving lotus more and more everyday. such great songs. but nowhere near the rainbow children.
