I would add the 2 Madhouse albums to that list. Also, the Tony Lemans album (but he didn't have anything to do with that one).

jill jones is my favorite.

after that, i'd say it's a tie between sheila's second album and the family's album. i think all the albums sheila did with prince were pretty strong.

and after that, i'd say the madhouse albums.

This is sure to spark some controversy!!!!!

It depends what Prince era's you like.

Dirty Mind through 1999 era grab The Time and What Time Is It? by The Time and Survivin' in the 80's by Andre Cymone

Purple Rain era grab The Glamourous Life and Romance 1600 by Sheila E and AC by Andre Cymone

In general you should also check out The Family's self titled album, Jill Jones' work, and the Madhouse projects

If you get desperate Mazarati, Vanity 6 and Apollonia 6 are not bad if you are looking to complete a collection of Prince associated artists

Morris: "None of my women wear gloves"

Not a bad list. Madhouse 16 is so-so compared to 8 and I never got into Mazarati. Taja Seville's album was a nice pop record. And Ingrid Chavez has some interesting moments.

i think madhouse's 16 has a lot of interesting stuff going on, but 8 is a lot easier on the ears. i could never get into the mazarati stuff - was it funk? glam? hair metal? there was too much lip gloss going on in that band. i love 100MPH, though. ingrid's album was unique for a paisley park album, though the whispery new agey poetry recitals got a little old after a few songs...

To be honest, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the classic 80's
Prince written associated artist albums. The Time, Sheila E, Madhouse,
Jill Jones, Vanity 6.

Get all the Starr Company (The Time, Vanity 6, Sheila E etc) and 80s Paisley Park albums (Jill, The Family, Madhouse etc) first, then work your way out to the stuff not produced by Prince or just a couple of tracks.

Mazarati, Jesse Johnson (and produced) and Andre Cymone are some of my personal favourites, but Prince's involvement is little to absolute nil on these.

IMO, the produced albums are just as impotant to the Prince canon as any album under his own name from the same period.

^totally agree.
The vast majority of those early associated artists albums are really Prince
albums with just his vocals replaced by someone else.

Time and Vanity 6 albums were essential to the forging of Prince's legend. They are often overlooked for their historical importance. Which is also a reason that Dez Dickerson is also overlooked. I havent read the entire thread but I bet he isnt mentioned once. He was a key contributor to the early Time and Vanity 6 projects. He contributed After Hi School on the first Time record. He did Hes So Dull on the Vanity 6 record. He also co-wrote Cool with Prince. Where would the Time be without that classic?

I have almost every album by every associated artist (first generation MPLS sound) that you can name (stop caring about WEndy and Lisa after the first couple of solo efforts), and Dez's One Man album ranks up there with many of them.

Hahhahaha!!! Although I have never heard that cd but I am NOT a fan of the genre so I don't think I was missing anything that I wanted to hear.

Seek out Madhouse, Mazarati, Vanity 6, and Apollonia 6 - but be prepared to pay through the nose if you want authentic CDs of these albums.
