BartVanHemelen said: So let's see: Arcade Fire release a DVD, available in regular (single DVD) and limited edition (extra dvd + beautiful package).
Or you can skip the hardcopy medium and just get one of the three available downloads (300 MB / 900 MB / 2.5 GB). Oh, and if you buy the DVD, you can DL the version of your choice anyway. http://www.miroir-noir.com/ BTW Just like Wendy & Lisa they also use TopSpin.com . Trent Reznor is already endorsing it: http://twitter.com/trent_...1457210157 . FYI: Trent has 224,900 followers on Twitter. Meanwhile Prince's site still thinks it's 1999. Oh, I forget: Prince has an exclusive deal with Target, so he cannot sell his CD to his fans who happen to live outside of the US, for instance. And the free T-Shirt? $7 shipping fee if you live outside the US. Again....an insightful post...Indeed Prince needs to broaden access to his music ...While I don't agree with the Twitter and TopSpin point (seems pointless for an act like Prince...that's more of an outlet for a true indie artist), I like what Arcade Fire is doing... But as I said in another It's -a-shame-that-Prince-can't-be-post, it's hard too take Bart's comments at face value....Because the man (Bart) has been doing the same ol formula for nearly a decade...lol... This industry will never return to what it was....
Until These companies can create an unbreakable encrypted sound file-format or CD, everything else is just "for the people marketing from gorups that need exposure because for whatever reason. The Companies and Entertainers will "price-gouge", and most of the public will copy, burn, or bootleg in return, (or not buy anything at all). Videos play a part, because they are everywhere! Why would the public buy anything, while the videos are the record, and they tell provide story for the songs on TV. This also helped to kill the industry. Nobody will ever sell CDs and Downloads like the albums in the past. It's done. Honestly, when they artist did sell Million$ of records, it made the Industry what it is today: greedy garbage and a stable of flesh-peddling whores with no talent and nothing to say. If you really look a the past of this industry with honesty, not much is different. It just become worse, and more desperate since then. Nah.. It's just the "angles" that he takes..lolol. They are interesting though! The anger makes me laugh a times. He is covering way too much territory in a short period of time.. Too many threads.. Too many topics.. It seems like another angle of attack, without any real meaning behind it other than anger and revenge. My Opinion. YHWH is Elohim and Yahoshua is King | |

To add to the discussion:
Most listeners won't be satisfied until all music is free, and artists starve! Most executives and entertainers won't be satisifed until they sell CDs for $100 per unit. Everybody wants something for nearly nothing (that truly matters). This discussion of "grass roots interent marketing of music" is just veiled-garbage..lol. If these groups need the publicity, they will do what they can to just get the music out, but this will only be for a short while in their careers. People are greedy, and destroying themselves in the process. Man is not going to change. 1990's = The Price-Gouging of CDs by the industry 2000's = The Era of Burning, and The Decline of Sales, Talent, Decency, and Truth. 100% of these entertainers are in the game for fame, riches$, and sex alone... Some begin as these supposed "Grass Roots Rockers", but they become attached to The Hollywood elite and World elite after a few years, and sell-out. The must because your records won't be played in the marketplace, if you look out for the people. I have no sympathy for any of them. YHWH is Elohim and Yahoshua is King [Edited 4/12/09 11:27am] | |

Could we please stop getting these stupid posts that negatively compare Arcade Fire to Prince? I think Arcade Fire's music is shit, but that is hardly the point here. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Uggh
Twittering and all these silly social networking sites are so cringeworthy to me. It's like dont have enough dopey ways for people to pretend they are hip, I always cringe when someone mentions how they twittering , facebook, or myspace. Prince has a very high name recognition, what he has always needed was simply to put out great product. I don't know how financially stable Prince is right now to be desperately peddling his ridiculous site that did not work on day one and to this day nothing on there other than the Coachella clips that i cannot easily get elsewhere faster than logging on to his site. Its never been about marketing for Prince, lately it has been about lousy product, and terrible PR moves. Prince should forget whatever fad is hip at the moment and just concentrate of firing everybody that had anything to do with his lousy website and start over. His website and his product are key to everything. Technology is a beautiful thing, but only if it works, only if it is user friendly, only if the end product is good. In this day and age with a name so recognizable as Prince, if he is serious he needs to stop fucking around with goofy domain names and just bite the bullet and pay off whomever owns "prince.com" or "princemusic.com" and create a professional website for whatever project from now until he calls it quits. How easy can it get, whenever anybody googles him it will list his site first, no need to pay anybody to get you higher rankings and what not. Why does the man make things seem like they are so difficult when he has it made compared to most every other recording artist alive. | |

----- What is the point? People are only going to purchase music if they enjoy the music. It does not matter one bit how great the website is or what content is avalible. Per this thread no one likes these guys so none are going to purchase their music. In addtion, P seems to be doing really well for himself with this project. I don't see him putting a gun to anyone's head forcing them to go to the site or buy the CD but plenty are buying. Kind of makes this P should do this or P should do that stupid and pointless. | |

YHWH is Elohim and Yahoshua is King yeah but my point is that if he exhibited the same pattern of post distribution, and all his posts were unflaggingly prince-positive, he would simply blend in with a lot of the people who are constantly complaining about him. it's not posting in every conceivable thread and seeming to be insane that is really the problem -- it's that he is negative about prince's later career. you guys have no problem at all with posting in every conceivable thread and seeming to be insane, in and of themselves. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die | |

virtually every conversation i am seeing about twitter these days reads exactly like conversations about blogs did five years ago, and indeed, exactly like conversations about the internet did ten years ago.
"who needs this hip stuff, i have a life," etc. of course there are people who can't stop talking about twitter because they think it makes them look hip. just as there were bloggers five years ago and internet users ten years ago who were more concerned about seeming cool than about doing whatever else it was they were supposed to be doing. but that doesn't mean these tools aren't useful for their intended purposes, or for whatever purposes the street finds for them. i, tool, am sick of reading about twitter. even though i use it. this stuff will pass. the news reporters and news bloggers will move on to some other topic shortly and we'll all stop hearing about it. but the question of why prince doesn't seem to do a very good job of leveraging the internet towards greater sales and/or a better relationship with his fans will remain. bart is just wondering why these younger artists seem more comfortable with new technology. the answer is simple: prince is an increasingly older man and is completely out of touch with a normal person's life. he is rich, famous and doesn't even do his own laundry or dishes. he has his own life and he does what he wants. he has never spent a lot of time interacting with fans and i don't know why anyone would expect him to start now. we've all been frustrated with prince's seemingly inability to operate his business effectively. i just don't think he's going to suddenly change his ways at (almost) age fifty-one. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die | |
