Prince is an Amazing bass player Ppl prince is a first class bass player. Just listen to the track "la,la,La,He,He,Hee" single version from 05:20 to 06:00. Can we discuss about his bass playing? You can tell about Prince's Future , but his Past is utterly unpredictable

I think Prince's niche is in his timing, the same thing that makes him a wonderful rhythm guitarist. He's not the most articulate, in comparison to a few other funky and killer bassists (Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten), but I don't think anyone can take away from him his level of chops. The boy's bad.

Climax - on Neon Rendezvous. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Definitely in the class of Larry, Louis, Bootsy, Bernard Edwards and Verdine White. How he devised and arranged music around a bass line like the one from "Lady Cab Driver" is uncanny. And how he was able to make the simplicity of something like the one from "Erotic City" super funky is just as astounding.

Don't forget - the best playing is not necessarily the most intricate.
Prince himself said that Larry stunned him by being the only player (at the time) who was 'brave' enough to just stay on one note, accenting it just right. It's about nuance, not just flash. So La La La has flashy playing, but that comes easier than "tasty" playing.

I don't really like the bass solo in this song, it sounds more like slapping and plucking on the guitar. there is no low end. i like the bass playing on the rainbow children tho, does anybody know if that is prince?
