AMAZING! Song. One of his best. I think its placement as the next to last song on a 36 song set was fatal. Should have closed out the album and the title track could have been placed elsewhere (maybe close out disc 1).

Doesn't do much for me at all, but i see quite often mentioned as a great track from Emancipation so maybe it's charms are just lost on me.

Fantastic song. | |

One of the best tracks on the album and should have been the album closer IMO.
Emancipation always seemed out of place tagged on the end after this.

My wife who is a musician and is hit or miss on lots of Prince songs LOVES this song. I do as well - my favorite on Emancipation for sure!
BTW - my wife does think Prince is one of the best performers on the planet and thoroughly enjoyed the Musicology concert...

Chiling The mood, the message, the arrangement...it's easily one of the top 3 songs from all the disks. The others for me would be "Saviour", and "One Kiss At A Time".

Emancipation always seemed out of place tagged on the end after this. "Emancipation" didn't make the cut on my whittled down two disk version of this album. haha He should have ended the album with "The Love We Make".

I never considered this song overlooked. I always had in rotation when playing Emancipation. I always thought of this as one of the last great songs he released commercially. In my opinion he totally burned out after this album

"Precious is a baby with a mother..."
Every lyric to this song just sends chills down my spine. First time I ever heard this song I was....hmm..maybe 12?? And I cried tears like I'd never cried before. Amazing. The end. ~~It's just around the corner......~~

AMAZING! Song. One of his best. [Edited 4/3/09 14:12pm] Wow! I guess my crying can't compete with that. Seriously though, The Love We Make is so haunting, heartbreaking and breathtakingly beautiful that it makes my heart full every time I hear it. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

It always seems like it's missing a killer guitar solo - it seems to build up and build up, and then Emancipation starts. Ugh.
But it's still a fantastic song. Perfect closer.

But it's still a fantastic song. Perfect closer. I'd love to hear him do it these days, since he seems to have gone all the way with his Hendrix phase. It does need a killer guitar solo.

This is amazing songwriting... the production was ok (Kirky J) but even ok production could not cast shade on amazing lyrics delivered with moving passion. There are little histrionics on this song because the words, and Prince's vocals deliver the punch.
"Sacred is the prayer that asks for nothing" one of my all-time favorite lines from Prince. This is one of those songs that are emotional healing. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32
