Are you new?? The "panting" to my ears could have been a direct sample from "Private Joy." And you're REALLY pointing out your ignor-prince when you say he sounds like "I'm A Slave 4 U." That song would have never existed without Prince first recording "Pussy Control" and having a little slave/face issue. Any of that ring a bell? Prince did it first. Pharrell paid attention and took it from there. You should too! (Please don't tell me you also think Prince was biting off "Milkshake" when he did "Housequake" ... break THE purple GoD

Are u f'n serious. Kanye pretty much ruined Common's last album. If you're referring to Finding Forever, I'll whole heartedly agree. So not what BE was. Definitely upset about that purchase. ----- About this song, I think it's hot. Of course hot and good are not interchangeable and I would never become one of those people who say it is. For my taste, I can dig it, but we all grade Prince on a scale that is enough to completely kill the average artist. This record is funky, fun, and exciting. So it's not a ballad, and there's no hidden agenda, it's a cool record. I could party to it, or stay at home and do some laundry while it's playing. Actually, it's one of my favorites off the album. BTW, I'm happy that yet again, Prince has enlisted the help is such a revered Hip Hop icon as Q Tip. Would anyone rather hear Gucci Mane, or Soulja Boy? Methinks not. At least he displays good taste. Another side note about rap: Not because I'm young, but because I actually love Hip Hop, do I still defend rap. It's not that bad. Sure, Prince is 50, but how long has Prince been incorporating rap into his music? Maybe he doesn't want to seem like an artist who completely distances himself from his fans. What we enjoy, he also enjoys. (Ask Common.) Another part about the composition of a rap song; that's where good production/sampling is KEY. Rap songs can have melody depending on who is producing. I saw a rap group a few weeks ago, that played "actual" music. There was a drummer, a guitarist, a couple of keyboardists, the DJ had a tambourine and there was a trumpet player. So what are you saying? Rap evolves too, or are people who only listen to jazz, 70s soul/blues, and Motown the only people worthy of the title "music connoisseurs"? I for one don't feel that way, wouldn't call myself a connoisseur just yet, but I'm not that judgmental, and I'm far from foolish for believing otherwise. Hip Hop has no age, so let the people who indulge (including Prince) enjoy. Rap shouldn't be the teenage nephew/niece you don't understand, that really likes you, but you never want him/her to stay at your house. Frankly it's a dead horse trying to tear it down. It's not a fad, it may not be thriving, but it's here to stay in whatever way shape or form they warp it into. Not to call anyone who isn't Hip Hop advocate an elitist, but dismissing it completely makes you look like one. I don't trash entire genres out of lack of interest and completely denounce them, I just don't listen. It spares people the trouble of calling out my "hatred". Long live my love of Hip Hop!!! With all the tunes prince has put out over the years, don't tell me that there were not times that Prince did something in a song that reminded you of other song or artist even if that artist was probably influenced by Prince. RodeoSchro said: TwiliteKid said: It unfortunate to see that people continue to have such closed minded attitudes towards hip-hop. I'd rather Prince left the genre alone, but to write it off in the way that the two of you have is pretty sad. You sound like parents in the 50s, damning Rock and Roll as noise. I know, and I regret it. But I grew up on real rock and real funk in the '70's, and since about 1993, music in almost all genres has taken leaps backwards. Believe me, I wish this wasn't so, but it is. If all you know is the rap, rock and hip-hop of the last 15 years, then you'll see it differently from me. But if you've been around, you know what I'm talking about. Look at this as a challenge - if you're a musician or a fan under 30, DEMAND more from your generation. We're not any smarter than you guys, we just were raised on better music. I wish I could tell you what happened, but all I know is it happened. I see it different from U and I'm a fan of all kinds of rock and whatnot. Rap is NOT a shitty or talentless. Are some of the performers shitty...sure...just like rock and whatnot. Just cuz a string of performers r different doesn't defile the whole genera. There IS melody in Rap...there's hooks, there's bridges....rap tunes have everything needed to call something a song. The way they play with language and flip definitions on their side.....just the amount of syncopation ALONE makes rap an interesting genera. I get this "it takes no talent to do what they do" vibe. Ask your self this. Can U do what Tupac did...and do it will. Imma argue no. That means it requires talent...talent which U don't have. If U wanna say U don't like it...fine....but don't dismiss it entirely cuz of your own state of mind. I friggin hate country. R those dudes talented....YES>..they write good songs and all that stuff. I just don't like it, but I CAN appreciate the amount of work put into it and how much talent they have to pull it off.
