Another factor to consider is that Target more likely than not has exclusive rights to promote and sale Lotusflow3r. Prince is likely contracted to uphold those rights. Allowing the commercial to play on You tube could very easily compromise those rights.

True, but if Target has the rights to the spot, wouldn't it say "Removed by request of Target" and not npg? Pretty impressive precedence that Prince has set for himself, no?
• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.

And youtube isn't like one person, it's a community of people. Whoever put up the commercial is probably a Prince fam so it's likely that Prince is imposing his schizophrenic values on someone who signed up at Lotus! disbelief One day the battered wife fights back.....

Exactly. It would be hypocritical of him if he allowed the commercial to play on youtube, while at the same time, has made it clear that he doesn't want his songs/vids on there.

No, it makes him stupid with no principles or values.

No it doesn't. If he didn't like his videos on youtube, why would he suddenly want a commercial promoting his album on youtube? That would be contradictory. Had he not have a prior issue with youtube, then I could see him allowing it there, but apparently he had/has issues with youtube having any content of him on there, so it's really not a surprise. Life goes on.

Well it's not like it's not being shown on regular and cable tv during prime time (at least here in the US).

I'm trying to figure out why anyone would specifically log on to Youtube to see a commercial they can see on the tv every 45 minutes or so.

I've seen it on cable stations and local stations aired around primetime in the states. More than once to be exact.
[Edited 4/4/09 14:14pm]

Yeah, so have I. lol That's my point. Who would log on to the internet in the (US anyway) just to see a 30 second commercial they can see on tv.

No kidding Bart. I was specifically stating that the commercial has in fact been aired during primetime, in the U.S. on cable and local channels, based on the post I responded to.

Ah, ah ah, but you mis-read my post. wink

The whole deal with YouTube is that it's free exposure. Companies, television networks, advertisers and everyone else that wants to promote something, uploads their wares. Target's learning their lesson. One more bridge burned.

Did McDonalds take down their "Give Back That Filet O' Fish" commercial from YouTube? No. Why? Because syphilis hasn't rotted their brains. Prince may need some penicillin. Stat. Oh, and Bria might want to see a doctor too for that recent burning sensation. Just sayin'.

But you could hardly escape the commercial the first week the album was out. Seriously, it played repeadly you didn't have to sit by the TV, flip a channel and you saw P and his red Target suit. lol

So Target is in collaboration with all the major music labels to sell their wares. Isn't Prince defiling some principle by working with a company that works with the same industry that ENSLAVED HIM? exclaim

Those of us who object to Prince's assholeish ways are protesting by not giving him a damn penny from our pockets. This site doesn't cost us anything and I am free to express my views! When I paid for NPGMC, which I loved btw (the club not the site), I was prevented from expressing myself freely.

There is no pot/kettle issue. If this was Prince's actual, official, affiliated site then yes. This is Ben's site.

i think it's a false dilemma. this isn't a site for people to only praise prince. it's a site for people who are fans of prince to discuss things together. there's no contradiction in a prince fan finding fault with something prince does. it's not our fault that prince has compounded a lot of (we think) mistakes in the last several years.

furthermore, my appreciation for prince's music has nothing to do with my opinion of his business sense, dress sense, personality problems and/or religion. i'm not really a fan of prince the person. i'm a fan of prince the musician.

I like youtube a lot, but i know some musicians who don't. you guys are acting as if youtube is the be all and end all of everything in entertainment. so that if anyone has a problem with it, its like sacreligous (sp?) or something to not want anything on youtube.

I could care less. If anything it impacts Prince and not me. Maybe its a stupid move, but only based on the fact that the commercial that he invested in to play on networks, that now plays for free on youtube, will automatically convert to people buying his cd. Its hard to tell if that is always the case.

thats my two cents.
