Guess what? Prince is demanding YouTube take down the Target commercial

http://www.nabeelamin.com/?p=204

His latest stupidity can be seen when he asked youtube to shut down his Lotusflow3r commercial from their site. It’s a commercial stupid! I believe that would increase your sales and put some money in your pocket. And you get to advertise for free! More money in your pocket!! What else do you want?

Only Prince can manage to screw up FREE PUBLICITY.

I don't like this but why is this surprising? I saw it coming when people here were posting clips from youtube to this site. What can you do?
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

ppl..he doesnt give a shit bout no quality utub..im sure there is a legal reason
the video cant be played there.
I would demand its removal too..everytime someone posts videos or performances from prince, they are either files that are poor quality...IE..coachella performance or incomplete files. People who saw the coachella performance on utub were like...that sucked (due to the cell phone recording's sound)
Prince is a big boy now. He sure knows what he is doing...even if you don't confused
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

The commercial does contain his image and music. He has a right to control that.

He really seems to have lost his damn mind. It's not his music, nor his videos up there. It's a commercial which helps an album sell. He's lost his mind even more with this comment.....

Heavy rotation never made my world go round
Commercialization of the music is what brought it down!

Normally, I would respect him and praise him for this comment but considering all the commercial tricks he pulled on this album such as the "singing a rap" type way his lyrics are delivered on many of the tracks and all the shit hop slang and attitude all over the album, this statement makes him come across as a total hypocrit and a liar.

Wake up folks.

Prince is different. It is a bit shocking to me that fans are suprised by any "unconventional" thing Prince does. Duh, he's Prince. He's gonna do what he is gonna do. Why do you care anyways? Uh, I think he's doing okay. Pulling a Target commercial from youtube is a lot less damaging to sales than, uh,..say putting out an album in 1988 with his naked self on it.

Yeah, as if his own site has such great quality vids.

Of course, he could just have put the target ad on his official site.
Or he could have an official YouTube channel.

Yeah, he's only been doing that off and on, for what now? 20 years.

He's either sung it or he's rapped it. Go back and listen some of the tracks on "MPLSound" especially the first two. There's been a trend going on in the last four or five years where the singers have been singing the lyrics on their uptempo tracks but they put so damn many words in each verse that it comes across as a cross between singing and rapping. Beyonce, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, etc. have been doing it. Actually, the music on Mary J. Blige's "My Life's Just Fine" sounds good and I've never liked her at all. But she ruins it with that shit hop style of singing. It's like they're doing anything to keep shit hop going. They just can't let it die. Now, they're putting it in dance tracks. I'm sure there are countless other acts doing it also but these are the only ones I've heard because I stay away from the current bullshit as much as possible. And yes, Prince has rapped before but not on damn near every track on the album and he used a lot more shit hop slang than ever before. I mean, words like "shawty"...hell, how gutter trash and low class can you get? When he sleeps with his rough trade boys, he really should tell them the same thing I used to tell mine...."Don't spoil it by talking"....because he's picking up their bad influence. lol

This was a definate desperate attempt at commercial success where he's using tactics and even has songs that sound like the very people he's preaching against. Hell, maybe he finally listened to some of the tracks himself, heard how rediculous he sounded, and pulled the commercial himself hoping that no one else would hear it. That's the only explanation I can think of that he wouldn't want his commercial exposed to as many people as possible. Hell, I know that's what I'd do if I were him.

I think it's a legal issue at this point. If he asks they not post other songs, images, etc., then Prince has the right, no, the responsibility to ensure that this holds true for everything, including things that might actually benefit him.

If his lawyers are doing this, that is undoubtedly the reason behind it. I would think that wanting to take down some things, but allowing some content that benefits him to remain would allow someone to have a reasonable argument against him if a suit was filed.

As far as placing the Target ad on the site, that's doesn't make sense. You've already paid b that point. Plus, none of us can have any idea regarding the agreement between Prince and Target.

The online video debacle is not one of the things I really agree with Prince on, but just for discussion's sake: Maybe he just really, really hates youtube and doesn't want his image to appear on it at all. He's not the only one who hates the site. Howard Stern rails against it all the time too. So yeah, maybe it is just a commercial, but if he hates the site and doesn't want to be featured on it in any way, shape, or form, no big deal.

I really think there SHOULD be a place where you can see his music videos for free (not necessarily his proprietary videos, but the released videos for singles) and he's wrong for not allowing it, but if his opinion of youtube is consistent, it kind of makes sense.

But... but.....
how stupid lol

It's free publicity. I can't even see Target having an issue with it. It points customers to their stores cause that's the only place to get the music. lol

wow. I mean, just wow.

Yes, but it is his (C) and his work which he gave, with clear restrictions I guess, to Target to run some advertising.
So why let that run out of hand and make it popular? That would be unheard of. What's his is his...

So yes: even here he can shoot himself in the foot.
Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.
