I thought exactly the same thing listening to Bria´s album....it has been a long time since he worked with a male for a whole album, just Kip and the blackshires for background vocals, it would be cool if he did a classic soul record with a young starting singer....or if he tried to groom a shy teenager like he was in ´77

I've been saying he should give an album to a new male solo artist for months now.

Protege's where never about Women...

The 1st protege(band) was Morris Day & the Time (all male)
Sue Ann Carwell was supposed to record an album thru him but things didn't work
2nd protege group was Vanity(Apollonia) 6
3rd protege Sheila E.
4th protege the Family (a group centered around St Paul(Peterson)
5th protege group Mazarati (all male)
6th protege group Madhouse (all male)

Jill Jones fits somewhere between the Time and Mazarati
Taj Sevelle never came across as a protege but she was in the Prince camp since 83/84

Anna Fantastic was in the works it never happened (she at least inspired: Rave(Un2 the Joy Fantastic-the song)
(They say your kingdom is falling...)
Robin Power started out...she was the lead of an all female band (the Dames) as well but Prince moved on
Ingrid Chavez started out but it never materialized karma(4 assisting in the removal of the Black Album)
Carmen Electric (the Fall of Prince...what the hell was he thinking)

It seems that after Graffiti Bridge it was mostly women

Cat was never a protege, Mavis Staples, Tevin Campbell, Chaka Khan, Kim Bassinger (none of these people were proteges)

I personally think Prince does better away from really famous people, we'll established people.

It also makes them look bad like they really need the help.

Prince collaborates with 2 many non-Prince musicians and it messes with his sound.

I don't think he needs a male protege. Unless there's some songs he's written to be sung from a female perspective and needs some chick to do it, then I'd prefer if he just kept them all for himself. shrug

Why do we need a male protege when we already have Prince? confuse

For that matter, why do we need any proteges? Why would we want any?

He's too insecure with guys especially his peers unless he's known them since childhood.

It would have been nice to see Prince, TTD and Lenny really collaborate. Still could happen. Put Shiela on the drums and that could be some supergroup.

He performed multiple times with Lenny onstage during the Jam Of The Year Tour. And the official footage of them performing "American Woman" during a
Rave-jam doesn't show much insecurity on P's side, quite more the opposite. If he was insecure in that footage, then he hid it very well for viewers to spot.

These folks need to show some incentive and talent and try to make it on their own. Prince shouldn't have to carry anybody on his back male or female. He did what he had to do when he was just a kid and so should they. It's like a bird as soon as he pushes them out of the nest, they can't fly on their own. confused

Maybe he see's/saw something in them, that reminded him of himself when he was a kid.
And maybe, just maybe he wanted to share it with the rest of the world.
At some point he did "kick them out of the nest".

We all saw how far they could fly.

I just think it's time for Prince to stop wasting time with these women who do nothing but drain him and give himself a real test. Work with a guy group or a grown man. I think it is safe to say that Prince is getting to the age of how long can he really be the one running around in make-up and heels tight pants singing about how he's gonna give it 2 you if you just give him the chance. Now don't get me wrong I still love him but I think it's time he grows up some in his music and talks about other things and give the young bloods a chance to scoop up some girls. I think the young men of today can learn alot from Prince on how to say things in a way that won't get them slapped. But I do agree if he's not gonna do the protege' thang right than leave it alone all together.

I think Quincy Jones was Tevins guide and mentor. Remember he thought he could be like Michael, because he had that voice(that did sound like Mike)

I'm not sure Tevin would fit the "male" part of the "Male Protege" equation either.
