Diary of a Angry Prince Fan

Ok so why are Prince fan/fams so passionate? Whether it be anger, love, protectiveness, appreciation, confusion, hurt etc.... we as Prince fans tend to be very vocal and very passionate about him. Why is that? Why do we not just enjoy his music and leave it at that? I am not throwing stones because I am guilty as well. I just wonder why that is?

I don't know about anybody else just myself, but when I like something I like it ALL the way and it's just natural to want to know as much as I can about it, but I've never questioned why, I just do. smile

I think it is because he speaks to and touches us through his music - good or bad. And many of us who have been fans for 20+ years feel a connection to him that is likened to a dear friendship... who wouldn't ardently stand up for a good friend? biggrin

He's pretty deep. Doesn't sing only about sex, money, and status. OK maybe there are a lotta sex songs....but sex is good. We are all grown ups here. But his lyrics and sound are not cookie cutouts of anyone else. He has more substance that many artists today. I'd like to think part of the reason Prince has always appealed to me is because I'm pretty complex too. It takes a lot for me to genuinely have an appreciation for anyone. Most of my friends are content with the nonsense on the radio. I'm not. My love for him as an artist is strong! So I defend him and argue his genius.

It is simple...Prince music makes you feel something! With so much boring crud out there, Prince seems refreshing and interesting. His music rounds it out; it doesn't matter what you are in the mood for, R&B, Jazz, Rock, Hip Hop, Reggae, ballads.. etc..you can find it in his catalog. In addition, He uses a variety of voices, instruments and artists. Most importantly, Prince fans stick around because of his passionate creativity with lyrics and sounds. biggrin

i think that's also why people are hard on him.

if you had a friend who made the same mistakes over and over for 20+ years, and it kept falling in your lap, how long could you hold the smile on your face? biggrin

remember! negative people don't get to play!

by the way! i crashed my car into your living room again!

smile katie, you're naked!

shrug I don't think Prince fans are anymore or less passionate than any other superstar fans. Probably what stands out is the diversity of the fans, it seems he's courting a different group of fans at different times, the others feel ignored and complain. shrug

mad
you said "fams"
Im pretty sure if you go onto any other artistes message boards you will find people being critical or full of praise.
We paid for the albums, we reserve judgement, we have paid for that right.
If you were unhappy with the service in a restaruant it would affect how you would tip.
I feel a lot of the people who post in here especially the noobies, have Prince and only prince in their record collection. These are the same people who think Princes version of Creep is better than the original. lol
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

A lot of music charms the mind, although Prince's music really moves the spirit...The music and the emotion is deep. Prince has a style that is multi-layered and that's why it is so effective.

With not a slight demotion 2 "Dr. Hook," themselves...Prince is the real Dr. Hook behind the mask. cool

I respect everyone's right to voice their opinion.

In this case, the "mistakes" of which you speak are purely subjective smile

Attitude plays a big role in any friendship and how you will view and respond
to "mistakes"... will you forgive and move on? Or, are the "mistakes" so detrimental to the relationship and offensive that you have to cut your losses?

The beauty is we have the choice. peace

I used that title because half of the posts on the message boards sound like pages out of "Diary of a Mad Prince Fan"
