We have a saying in the UK

He's scored an Own goal !.....Prince...could have got a number one if he sorted the right deal out for his fans .....give them a chance to buy through his website for Target/Amazon that way he would get international sales that count as US sales....oh brother.....so close but so far.... lol

Plus, the amount of copies purchased via membership to Prince’s newly launched LOtUSFLOW3R Website likely won’t be included in his final tally. One thing is for certain, and that’s that Now! 30 probably won’t be topping the charts again.

For more on the LOtUSFLOW3R package, check out this week’s New Music Report for Rolling Stone’s take on the Purple One’s three-disc set

Why should I buy more than one copy? What makes people so bothered about an artist they like being number one that they want to keep spend money on product that they don't need? Are you doing it for you or him? If he wants it so bad, I'm sure he can buy a few up.

If you're so keen to give Prince money, sign up for another account at lotusflow3r.com. I'm sure he gets more from that then he would from another CD sale.

It would be nice to see him at number one but I really don't understand buying multiple copies.
RIP sad

Why would he do that when he can sell his music independently through his site and keep a far greater percentage of the proceeds? He made more money on Emancipation than he did on Purple Rain because more money goes in hos pocket when it is NPG Records. What does being number 1 on a chart that has artists who are not good enough to be mentioned in the same breath? Nothing except childish bragging rights for that week. It doesnt guarantee him a Grammy - plus he has some of those already.

If his business people sorted out a better deal he would not have to ...he could have lowered the joining fee to the website got international sales via Amazon / Target online as they do all the e-commerce for target anyway...
and had the sales registered on billboard...and he would have his 5th number 1 album ...which would have promoted the Album and the website.....

He really needs his PR people to work with the fans .... lol

There never be another one like me.....

Bragging right is just good business and PR why do you think he was on leno for 3 days...because he wanted to air his music to the public....that's what a number 1 album / 5th Number Album would do....

Prince's PR people are a bit slow of the mark....they need to speak to the fans or what's the point in doing 3 nights in one day ?

lol

I understand everyones point but this is bigger than Prince

this will prove REAL music can still sell, no outlandish synths, no corny hooks, no autotuned to death vocals, no lyrics with very little substance ( just finished listening to a new song from a popular urban artist about getting F**d up on drinks in the club - how clever rolleyes)

not only that its just exciting, of course I want my favorite artist to be #1, buy an extra album because you want to, if you cant no biggy but if you can why not? the sole purpose above should be enough, even if its #2 still an accomplishment in todays industry, he's beating out the artist with the #1 song on billboard and fastest selling single in digital download history who also released a new album this week

when soundscan numbers come back next week, every major label is going to be scratching their heads lol

I agree the communication with the fans must better, there should be a news section on the site, etc...

Well, projections suggest he'll be number two at worst, so if that's enough, there's no reason to buy multiple copies.

But if it makes you happy.

Prince's 'Lotusflow3r' Off To Strong Sales Start
Prince's new album, "LotusFlow3r" (NPG), issued exclusively in the U.S. through Target stores on Sunday, March 29, leads Nielsen SoundScan's Building Chart, which was released today, April 1.

Yet, the album may not finish the week at No. 1.

Why? The Building Chart reflected unweighted sales through the close of business on Tuesday, March 31. Which means that new releases -- which almost always bow on Tuesday -- usually only have one day's worth of sales included on the Building Chart that is released on Wednesday of each week. However, Prince's album dropped on Sunday, so the Building Chart actually reflects the set's first three days worth of sales.

As it stands now, Prince's album is ahead of the No. 2 set, Keith Urban's new "Defying Gravity" (Capitol Nashville), by a very wide margin.Billboard estimates the seven merchants who report to Nielsen SoundScan's Building chart -- Trans World Entertainment, Best Buy, iTunes, Starbucks, Borders, Target and Anderson Merchandisers -- comprise about 60% of all U.S. album sales.

If he were to go to number 1 because people bought multiple copies just for the purpose of doing so, as opposed to a true number of individual people purchasing the cds would that really mean anything? Isn't that like Bill Gates having people at Microsoft buy extra copies of the latest MS operating system and then claiming that their stuff is the best and that this can be proven by the software sales?

Exactly. It's fine to spend money on entertainment for yourself but if someone has the money to throw away on multiple copies of the same album, they would be better off donating that money to their local homeless shelter, children's hospital, research for uncurable diseases, or even their favorite charity. Prince is far from a charity case.

I say "Let Me Spend My Money....My Way". As a follower and avid listener for years of Prince; I could give a FLYING FIG where the CDs are on the chart counts. I love the music and the artist. Guess what....He's not the only artist I feel this way about although Prince tops the list.
