More than half of MPLS is bad. And I mean "not good" bad.

"There will never b another like me" could be Prince's most embarrassing song ever and easily the worst opening track ever. Try to play that to a non-prince fan friend (black, white or whatever) and see the reaction you get. shockingly awful considering Prince obviously thinks it great.

The ballads are actually very good and mature and could have found a place in any album. And No more Candy for U is just plain ol' fun in a retro "the real" 1981 Minneapolis Sound sort of way. But the rest goes from embarrassing (the pseudo "dirty south" style rap in Valentina???LOL) to corny to just OK (if Britney Spears circa 2001 was singing it).

You know, I like the album. I do agree about "(There'll Never B) Another Like Me" not being a good choice to open the album. I don't think the song is horrible like a lot of u do, but I think it's decent. Sure, the lyrics are kind of elementary, but oh well. I understand why he put it on this album. I think he used it as an opener to say to the world that there will never be another like him musically, personally or professionally. They only thing is that the lyrics don't really relay that.

As for the rest of the album, I like most of the tracks, but the ballads are weak to me. I like the ballads on Bria's album a bit better than the ballads on MPLSOUND. "Something You Already Know" is tha bomb.

The rest of MPSLOUND is decent. I LOVE "Dance 4 Me" and "Old School Company". "Here" is a good track also. To me, what makes this album complete is "No More Candy 4 U". I love the way it was recorded to sound like a Dirty Mind outtake. It really kicks arse.

I agree that "There Will Never Be Another Like Me" is (by far) the weakest track on the album, but overall I think it's a solid record, and quite entertaining. There are some real gems, especially "Dance 4 Me" and "Valentina" and "No More Candy." Funky stuff.

I just always skip the opening track, because I really don't like the vocal arrangement.

The rest of the album is great though...

"Chocolate Box" is infectious and SLAMS.

"Here" is a BEAUTIFUL song... love the Stevie Wonder changes that sound like something from 'Music From My Mind" or "Fulfillingness' First Finale'.

"Dance 4 Me" is the JAM.

"Valentina" sounds like WAR (band) meets Peter Gabriel, meets Santana, meets Prince. Love this track.

I'll provide more of my impression of both albums when I write a review.

A few weeks back I was going to make a 'worst of Prince' compilation, then Prince saved me a job by releasing MPLSound.

I really like the cd. I think he made it for dancers and I am one. I would really like to create different types of videos and stage shows for these songs to come to life. I think it is a good cd. If you don't it's ok. I almost feel like some of the songs coulda been given to Britney Spears whos new stuff I really like (guilty) and she woulda done great with them. Maybe La-La land is getting to Prince and not in a good way.

Personally I like MPLSound much better than LotusFlow3r...and I really enjoy the more upbeat funky tracks over the ballads. My friend Tasha loves the slow jams on MPLSound and doesn't care for the funky songs. I think No More Candy 4 U is silly, it's my bf's favorite track.

The one thing I think we can all agree on is that we're not even bothering to listen to the Bria cd.

I havent listened to MPLsound for more then a week now, and i am not really feeling the temptation to put it on again quickly.

To be honest the only songs I like on MPLSOUND are Dance 4 Me, There'll Never Be Another Like Me and Valentina I skip over the rest I like Lotusflow3r better

the only songs i like are Chocolate Box, Dance 4 Me and No More Candy 4 U

Well im sorry too-sorry some of you seem to be missing something.....Bria's album is great. Alot better than I expected it to be. Best 'protoge' project he's done. The vocal I will admit though good and nice-is nothing spectacular-for Prince to even mention Bria and Sade -lol but hell no. BUT-the music is superb-really classy sound-the songs are very accessible and catchy. Give it a chance-it deserves to be heard and deserves praise. AND-while im on it-im REALLY shocked at some of the comments on P's latest ;'ballads'. Man I swera ur gonna see me is freaking gorgeous-the harmonies-I love the arrangement-I dont vare how lame this seems-the first listen made me quite emotional-not crying but its such a sweet well produced tune-I adore it-as I do better with time. This remind me of the track he did with the magnificent Angie Stone-u make my sunshine-still one of my Prince faves. I knew i'd like this project-I didn't think I 'd be so into it-I genuinely think its brilliant-i honestly dont skip a single track (or disc) yet-eeeven the 4 tracks we had for a couple of months before release.

PS-ol school live-man i hated the version on Leno.....prefer the album version by a mile
