Dropping the needle anywhere on these youngsters wont have any memory of this but some of you can recall getting an album (when that meant a big 12" platter with a dust cover) and trying to drop the needle of your turntable in that little groove between the tracks so you could here the tune that you liked most. Sometimes you would get right in the silent gap before your tune started. Other times you would get the last few seconds of the song you were skipping or the first few seconds of the song you wanted to hear.
Every now and then an album comes along that doesnt require that skill (although CDs ended that necessity altogether). I rarely do this with any Prince album but some are more likely to get that then others. I did it on Planet Earth. But these new records can honestly be left in a CD changer and played without attention to the skip forward button. It is amazing because it is it 3 discs of material with a consistency that lends them to continuous play. I have the 3 Target discs in my home CD stereo and the 3 burned copies from the site in my car cd player and I have listened to nothing else since the March 29. [Edited 4/3/09 7:40am] | |

I remember falling asleep to side 2 of my Purple Rain vinyl every night... whenever the needle got to the end, it would reset back to almost the beginning of that last song and needless to say, I had that melody stuck in my head for a LONG time. I'm witchya on the current non-stop listen fest of the new music, but I'm sure sure I'll slowly re-integrate the other post 2000 stuff shortly (I gotta have TRC on a pretty regular basis) http://prince.org/msg/105/307615
