i recently aquired this cd maxi single and i am having all kinds of issues ripping and playing this single on my itunes and other computer music programs.but it will play on regular cd systems.anyone else have this issue and if so(or even not)ny ideas on how to remedy the situation.

I had a similar problem with an "Amerie - Touch" CD I purchased several years back. At that time there was some sort of anti-piracy thing they were trying on various music CD's. I can't remember the specifics or the companies involved, but I think it was ruled that the anti-piracy method they were using was illegal, and in fact was damaging lots of peoples equipment. I lost the use of an entire disc drive after trying to rip MP3's from that Amerie disc. I was ripping MP3's, from a CD I purchased, because MP3's at the time sounded better on my system (not because I was trying to steal or redistribute songs). I think there was even a class action lawsuit against the CD manufacturers that utilized that anti-piracy method.

So I don't know if that could be what you're experiencing with your "My Name is Prince" disc, but if it hasn't destroyed your disc drive yet, I'd probably suggest forgetting about trying to rip singles from it.

(Although, I own that "Prince" Maxi Single myself, and it seems to me that I have ripped songs from mine in the past, but after reading about your issue with yours, I'd be afraid to try it again, lol.)

Mine works fine in my computer.

A CD with anti-piracy protection on it would cause this issue, but there are no Prince CDs with this lovely feature. Good thing, because it could fuck up your PC.

Either the CD is dirty, scratched, hazed by previous moisture exposure or degraded in some way, or it's just one of those things. Try burning a copy of the CD and using the copy to pull files from for conversion. This has helped me in the past.

Otherwise, download the torrent of this disc (you own the CD, so no bad karma should come your way). It's readily available.

Sony got into a heap of shit for that venture. They totally and illegally went against the Red Book of CD standardization that they authored with Philips. So Philips was suing Sony for not following Red Book, Sony was recalling millions of CDs, the class action suit was in place and chaos ensued.

Of course, if you were using a Mac to copy those CDs, you experienced no issues.

Were you part of the class action suit after your HD was corrupted? The suit included consumers. I think they were given vouchers for CDs, ironic as that seems.

Try installing/dual booting to a linux system and rip the tracks to flac format. I've had no issues doing this with a couple of so-called 'protected' CD's that I stupidly bought without checking.
