I hear it. But it's just a similarity, or even a familiarity to his past works in the same vein: punk/rockabilly rooted tracks like Horny Toad, Tick Tick Bang, Delirious, Can't Stop This Feeling I Got, etc.
Prince plays what he knows, and me likey the No More Candy 4 U song. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Prince plays what he knows, and me likey the No More Candy 4 U song. Spot on! Ronnie Talks To Russia is much more similar, musically, to NMC4U than Tick, Tick. And, just because Candy harks back to the Controversy era, doesn't mean its an updated song from that time - this style of track is one Prince could knock out in his sleep and at any time.....for all we know, it was written only months ago. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

joyinrepetition said: The original Tick, Tick, Bang from the 1980 Dirty Minds sessions. I kept wondering where I heard the synth part before, so after racking my Prince files in my brain, I figured it out. So does this mean that Prince went into the vault and this is actually a 1979/80 track updated or did he happen to go back and say, "I could use this?" For those who have the original Tick, Tick, Bang boot, go back and give it a listen. You'll be pleasently surprised as I was.
Wow, thanks for the scoop. I gotta check the original Tick Tick Bang boot out. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I don't see NMC4U being similar to RT2R at all. I think you guys are hung up on the fuzzy guitar and the C#-to-D power chord used a few times in NMC4U but a lot in RT2R. I gotta go listen to the original TTB to see if it's similar to NMC4U. TTYL.

I listened to the old TTB and I don't see NMC4U being an update of it. Different songs, and the only similarity I see being a 5 - 4 chord progression after the verse in each song.
There is a scale run-up in TTB and in NMC4U but they aren't tonally the same. NMC4U ends up on the root and TTB's ends up on the octave. But it was an interesting catch, joyinrepetition, and it was good to break out that old boot again, so thanks!
