http://en.wikipedia.org/w...roduction)
Foley is a term used to describe a process of creating post-production sound effects for enhancing a soundtrack of a film, video, computer- or video-game or other multimedia work. The term foley is also used to describe a place, such as foley-stage or foley-studio, where the foley process takes place. "Foley" gets its name from Jack Donovan Foley (1891-1967), a sound editor at Universal Studios. A foley-studio, or foley stage, usually consists of a seatless theatre (where the effects are created) and a control room (where the mixer and recordist work). People who work in a foley-studio are called foley artists or foley-technicians. Foley work, creating artificial sound effects for film, is used by filmmakers to complement sound recorded on set at the time of the filming (known as field recording). The soundscape of most films utilize a combination of both. The need for replacing or enhancing sounds in a film production arises from the fact that, very often, the original sounds captured during shooting are obstructed by noise or not convincing enough to underscore the visual effect or action. For example, fist-fighting scenes in an action movie are usually staged by the stunt actors and therefore do not have the actual sounds of blows landing. Crashes and explosions are often added or enhanced in post. it's time for a new direction / it's time for jazz to die | |
