Prince's views on wealth How does he reconcile his constant bashing of "the system" and then at the same time write a song dedicated to a $50,000,000 villa?
Are only musicians and celebrities allow to make ungodly amounts of money?

Every penny of it - and that is the difference between Prince and "the establishment". Those fat cats at AIG didnt deserve those gratuitous bonuses. The economy is ruined by their greed, deception, and incompetence and they lined up for sums of money that most people in this world would never see in several lifetimes. Prince has given us great works of art over 4 decades - by himself; without govt bailout for Paisley Park or NPG. And he pays alot of taxes, like every honorable rich American. And he has given back alot and helped people with his money. What Prince does and stands for makes the world better. Thats the difference

And, if you want to start talking about "ungodly" amounts of money, how about you start with The Vatican? [Edited 3/30/09 8:37am] ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I remember when he was on Tavis' show on BET in the 90's. I think he addressed it then. he said no one has given him anything and that he has worked hard and earned everything he has gotten

Can you substantiate that? Even as far back as Lady Cab Driver, Prince says "This one's for the rich - not all of em, just the greedy, the ones that don't know how to give". ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I think the Prince that said that back in 1982 was much more open minded and enlightened than the lecturing curmudgeon he has become.

Are you serious?, is Prince not allowed to voice an opinion now?. Should someone who pays for healthcare not care about a free health service?.

Seems to me that his views on money and "the system" have changed little throughout his career. He's certainly more conservative these days, but he's in his 50's.....it happens! But, please, feel free to provide evidence to the contrary. ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I'll take it that you can't provide evidence to support your claims then!
It amazes me how many people here will pull an opinion out of their ass without giving it a sniff of forethought. Here's a question for you - how do you reconcile being on a Prince forum, when all you do is try (unsuccessfully) to deride the said artist? Do you really have nothing better to do? ...we have only scratched the surface of what the mind can do...

I'm not a Christian, but Prince is, so:-
"[I]t is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." - Matthew 19:23-24 Regardless of whether or not he deserves to be so wealthy, what does Prince think of this teaching? Does this apply to him? Biblical teachings aside, does society benefit from the consolidation of wealth in the hands of the few? The answer to this question will not depend on our opinion of whether or not someone deserves to be so wealthy. Regardless of whether or not we think Prince deserves such wealth, does it benefit society for millions to have little and a few to have so much? Lastly, has enormous wealth benefited Prince's art?

It doesn't matter what job u have, if you're more 'qualifed' u make more money than those who may be less qualified.
A manager will make much more than a supervisor... A supervisor much more than a secretary...etc etc. Can't be mad at the person for being more qualified, now can ya? Prince is extremely talented and he's worked hard, with most ppl callin him a workaholic. "It's easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God" makes reference to the greedy wealthy. Some ppl hate and covet everybody that's rich jus cause they're poor and struggling. Ain't nothin wrong with being wealthy and u can't blame a man for honestly becoming wealthy, but when u feed your selfish side and refuse to give and help those in need, that's when it's wrong. Can't be mad at prince for being rich. I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh
