When did people get the idea Prince is some sort of Bob Dylan ? When he wrote Jack U Off ? lol

falloff

For me personally, it was this little gem that had me thinkin' Dylan.

Sexy dancer, U got my body screamin'
Sexy dancer, U got me just-a-creamin'

Are these lyrics on par with The Cross

Black day.
Stormy night.
No love.
No hope in sight.

Not the most profound lyrics I have heard.

If eye see 11,
U can say it's 7.

Deep, man, deep.

or Parade???

Act your age, not your shoe size,
maybe we could do the twirl.

Are you sure you want to argue this point?
We could go on and on.

The Cross - It was more about the content, the message and the soul with which he sang it... add the music to that and he killed it on that track.

When 2 R in Love - This whole song just about kills the entire Lotusflower shenanigans as far as lyrical content is concerned.

Sometimes It Snows In April - 'nuff said...

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to pick a fight but you have to admit that Prince's songwriting skills are lackadaisical at best at this point. In this THREE album effort nothing comes close to what he's been capable of and it's really disappointing...

I agree with this, but you said lyrics.

I love the lyrics to the song, but you said anything off of Lovesexy.

One of my all time faves. Nothing on Lotusflow3r compares.

I agree lyrically it could be better. But for me it is more about his delivery on some songs.
Sticking too many, or too few words into a line, with the result coming off clumsy sounding.

I think you have conditioned yourself to feel this way about his lyrics. His albums have always contained songs with banal lyrics.
Just start reading them from For You on, concentrate on them, and you'll realize that more times then not you could call his writing corny and trite.
He is exactly who we thought he was

Stu, John Lennon was a bit better..lol

In your opinion maybe. I have every Beatles album, and a few John Lennon ones too, and in my opinion L&M were prolific, and brilliant, but George Harrison's songs are by far the best, mainly because they challenge in a way that L&M never did. I would gladly trade:

Something
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
Here comes the Sun

for any three L&M compositions.

Okay, Okay these lyrics 'don't' suckas as you put it.

Prince IS describing sex.. AND the last line.. 'U feel like a movie star'

It's brilliant. That's how everyone wants sex to feel. Drama, glamour, attraction, etc, etc..

Please, please don't critise Prince lyrics because you'll get me really mad.

Okay, you can critise '21 positions in a one night stand' or 'Could you be the most beautiful girl in the world' because that is the most pretentious, meaninglyless crap. But anything pre Diamonds and Pearls was f-ing amazing!

Even a throwaway song like 'Slow Love' still has some beautiful pieces of poetry in it.

My God, you people are Philistines... mad
Shut up already, damn.

My God, I can't believe you are daring to critise these lyrics.

He is describing blackness, and poverty in the most simplistic, straightforward way.

It is not just about material things it is poverty of the soul too.

It is really deep. So simple, so beautiful, so Prince...

You underestimate these lyrics but really there is so much depth in them.
Shut up already, damn.

Amazing isn't it? People telling a musician/artist how he/she should play or write their songs? Then it wouldn't be that artist/musician's creative material now would it? lol Only on the Org. lol

Okay, now run over to a Dave Grohl messageboard and proposed to him that he should replicate Here, Dance 4 Me, or Love Like Jazz.

Next, you can post to John Fogerty to consider writing a song like The Morning After, or perhaps $.

We'll see how serious their fans take your post on those boards, and how soon Grohl or Fogerty are able to duplicate Prince music.

All I can say is bravo!

Wow. Okay, in any "every day love affair", all is not perfection 100% of the time. There is an ebb and flow that, depending on the attitude and commitment of the individuals involved, will only add color to and strengthen the relationship. For better or worse. You don't stop loving or respecting - in this case, Prince's obvious talent and skills - just because your perspective does not currently harmonize with his. He has only grown as a brilliant composer, lyricist, poet and artist. IMO it's about how the music makes you feel... we die-hards have supported Prince through all of the "ebbs and flows", through the various periods of his life where his music reflected what HE was feeling at the time whether that be triumph or tribulation. No part of that journey detracts from the man or his genius. And as far as how the music currently makes one feel, you only need to read the various Lotusflow3r/MPLSound appreciation threads to get the sense that the majority are in a positive place with these works, because I believe Prince is in a positive place. Since 2000, he has had this positive, happy vibe about him and his music has not suffered in the least. Prince has only gotten better with time and his resolve is faith strengthening...imo.
peace
