Prince & Bria's Introduction 2 Uptown Lotus Flower & Minneapolis Sound are the work
very Prince sounding music, cohesive and I'm enjoying it I don't have to skip around to find Prince on these cds I think Elixer or Bria V could work but not the 2 together I think the way she was handled (or not handled) didn't help promote her as a protege I question if anyone would have bought Elixer if it was sold seperately I do like a few songs on there, but I don't think her presense or her place in the Purple World, has made a statement. The music from Elixer is good, but I keep going back to Prince I can look back at the Time, What Time Is It? Ice Cream Castles Glamorous Life Romance 1600 Sheila E Vanity 6 (not really Apollonia 6) the Family Mazarati Jill Jones and really listen to the album for what it is as well as who the protege(singer/band) is. I was/still am interested in the people I think if he brought Bria to us like Jill Jones before she released her album the reception might have been better. We heard J.J. on 1999 (was she on Controversy) we heard her on the Time, Purple Rain, ATWIAD, Parade, SOTT, b-Sides, Mazarati Sheila E & the Family We saw her in lingere a purple trench a cop hat with the platinum blond during the 1999 tour and videos, we saw her in Purple Rain as the sensitive bartender/hostess, she was Prince's friend outside of the music, And we knew she could sing and she had character So when the album dropped Jill was already immersed in our minds and lp's as a Purple singer. She also took part in the writing of songs and direction of the album I think if Bria had a little of that, I would be more excited to get her album. (I don't know when Prince met this native from Minneapolis (that's a plus)) but I think he knew her long enough to have had her sing back up at some of the after parties, 21 Night's Book party and definately on Jay Leno(unless there was some serious reason she couldn't) He should have had photoshoots for her and let her image be found online easily She could have jumped on stage with Sheila, in some lace ruffled purple shirt or paisley, and sang impromptu (or made it seem that way) back up for Sheila while Prince was somewhere in the room It would have made her interesting No matter what anyone says about Vanity, she had sass she had character she had sexiness and it all matched Prince and it was real the album was fun it was playful it was her extension in Princes world. And it was raw. I think she was a good frontman, she sang back up at times for Prince, she and the girls 6 were mingled with the Time, Vanity is heard on Grace and other songs... I think that is the road 2 go for a protege such as Bria especially since she is one person like Jill Jones. I am giving her a chance though, If I can finally get 2 Lotus Flow3r cause I'm still jamming Minneapolis Sound then I'll get 2 Elixer What I'll probably do to get into it is compose a playlist of songs from the 3 albums along with other Prince & Protege music from 1978 and onward that blends and feels like music from the 2009 3cd set, It always helps me get into music more Space from Come has that Minneapolis Sound with that urban night life early 90's sound | |
