Smart move, playing The Everlasting Now on Leno. It's one of the stronger tracks from TRC and one of the most impressive tracks on the live album, and it preaches Prince's JW agenda to boot. He could have at the very least a modest hit on his hands, not to mention a smooth way to "spread the Word" to boot, if he put the time, effort and cash investment into a decent single and video.

The single could feature the live version, the TRC version, a radio edit, a new song (like back in the day) and a club mix...but fer cryin' out loud, find someone DECENT to do it and not the Prince remix crap we're used to. So many good people out there STILL would love to work with Prince...he could take advantage of that for a change and come out of the deal with a hot remix.

The video...check this out:

It starts in a storage room at Paisley Park. Prince is rummaging around, and uncovers the vacuum tube from the "7" video. Just to be stupid, he steps into it - it transports him...TO 1984! He finds himself at First Avenue, he hears the announcer say, "Ladies and Gentlemen..." and then he grabs the mic and says, "If yer lookin' to get yer Purple Rain on..." and the NPG (in 80s regalia, of course) jumps into the beginning of The Everlasting Now.

After a bit of jamming, Prince spins his way back into the machine, and it transports him again...he steps out and everything's in black and white...it's 1986! He's at a ritzy cocktail party, and the video turns into a parody of "Girls and Boys", complete with Prince kicking up a storm on top of his piano! One wrong spin sends him flying across the room after a bit of avant purple partying, and he winds up back in the vacuum tube...

...he stumbles out to find himself in a club where everything's neon and tacky. George Clinton and Mavis Staples are onstage with him. It's 1990! What the hey, Prince goes with it and after a bit of jamming on the Graffiti Bridge set, he steps back into the vacuum tube with determination, where it brings him back to 2002, where the NPG, Larry, Maceo and a soundstage full of NPGMC members await in the here and NOW. Get it? Ha?

Prince's look would stay the same in all the different eras, though the NPG's looks might echo that of the Revolution or the old skool NPG just a little, and of course all the audiences would have the looks of the day...and in the Purple Rain scene, maybe they could find that fat black breakdancer kid from the I Would Die 4 U video and have him play Billy, now that he's all grown up!

Okay, so I'm bored. Sue me.

Why even think about this in the first place, firstly everlasting now aint a hit ever, just start it all over again. NO Way in hell would ppl buy it like baby one more time! it would ruin the album anyway just like TMBGITW ruined gold experience by being the only successful single on their and none fans will think the album is crap if it only has one single on it!

ps singles dont make money for prince thats why he stopped doing them!

That picture pretty much captures the essence of me at work everyday. Well, not everyday. Fridays, I'm all smiles.

And in a country where The Bachelor and the Victoria Secret special make headline news, I'm not sure that appreciation for talent like Prince's is gonna get a whole lot larger than it is right now.
But for all those people who think Prince begins and ends with Purple Rain, I'd love for them to be exposed to ONA Live.

I dont look for Prince to try to become radio friendly or TV friendly.I think he is looking to GRACEFULLY go into is rightful place in music history.Ass-less pants will get you attention,but it will not get you respect. I think he has that respect among his peers but not among the general music buying public.Some of you may hate his newfound sprituality but I think it takes guts to stand up for something that others will only talk about. With his newfound political stances he could be a latter day Muhammad Ali.
