Instant classic in my opinion!

In fact I am under-listened to the rest of the new songs because I keep hitting repeat...

Being in the UK, I wont have the albums for another week or so. I have pre-ordered them so I'm tring not to read too much stuff about them because I don't want my own judgement to be swayed. Having said that though, that is because new stuff is usually slated so it's really refreshing to read (nearly!) everyone being so positive about it all.
I just had to read this one because whenever I see those words, Dance 4 me I immediately think of Wayne from Whose Line is it anyway!!
''Come on and dance, OOOH, dance, OOOH'' and that silly leg flailing dance!! Creases me up every time! lol
I know I hold you too tight, but I just can't seem to get close enough

One of his best songs ever...any era.

But, Love from 3121 had the same "hit" potential and it went nowhere.

Let's face it...it's a hit (for our ears only).
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

This song is way overrated here.

It is on the level of 'Come on' from New Power Soul. Autopilot dance-pop, very generic, far from funky and nothing special.

Why are you spending so much time trying to convince people who like the songs on Mplsound how bad the songs are?

And for the record Come On is nothing Come On from NPS. Also since when do people have a problems with Prince doing POP songs. He career is mostly build around pop songs and some great ones at that

Dance 4 Me is a very strong dance record

Works both ways...why do people spend so much time trying to convice those who don't like particular songs how good they are? wink

well while you might have a point if this was the mplsound thread. This thread is specifically about how much a poster enjoys the song.

Now since the poster I responded to already gave an extremly negative review of the album in the Mplsound thread what exactly is the purpose of $hitting on a thread that is specifically about liking the song Dance 4 Me?

thats what I was really addressing
Dance... Let me see you dance

I can't stop listening to this song. I just love the way he sings this song with the Camille vocals. He had better release this!

I LOVE the sound of this track, but at first I was thinking that these had to be the worst lyrics he's ever written. But then a friend pointed out that the lyrics of Erotic City were no great shakes either. It's funny how when songs become classics you just stop noticing the flaws, or they just cease to become flaws somehow.

This is one of my favourites too. The intro reminds me a little of Lady Cab Driver, but that's a cool thing.

The 1st thing that came to my mind within the 1st 30 seconds of the song. If Roger was still alive he would have a good case in court.

I'd be a very happy man if there was a version with regular vocals. The musical arrangement is amazing. With that one change, I would consider that song the best of the new 2 discs.

None of these songs have a wide listening appeal. Everytime Prince releases an album there is always a knee jerk reaction from fans on these sites 'this song is a hit !!' or 'if only this song was the single ....'. Then of course none of the songs become hits or even popular.. Then Prince starts going on about the 'gate keepers' who wont play his songs etc, ....then the fans buy into that nonsense.

I think lyrically and musically it's got to be better than this tune.

I guess only time will tell if it's a hit or not, but i know where I would put my money.

Lets wait and see

Well...he doesn't get support from radio....so there goes the hit.... Now if it was just LF I would say you are 100% correct but I think there is some stuff on MPLSound that might have a chance.

What is a hit....radio...grammy's????

If this were 1985-1988, MPLSoUND would be a hit in radio and sales. I think there's at least three 80's radio friendly tracks - Chocolate Box, Dance 4 Me, Valentina.

There doesn't seem much chance of widespread airplay now, though.

You have a point - it's not like there's eva been hater's criticism of a Prince that made me dance to a song harder.

Classic Prince. A definite gem.

I'm djing a dance party in May and I've been debating which Prince song to play, but Prince decided for me when he released this little nugget. Too funky.
