I haven't seen the commercial on TV yet. Also, I went to Target today and bought the CD. They didn't have a display eek or anything to make it stand out. It was on the shelf with the rest of the new releases.

That's very strange.

Well it's only hurting Target. Prince was paid on product shipped..Target is the one that has to recoup from in store sales. Any soundscan projections yet?

I hate the fact that it was a Target exclusive. I'd much rather my money go to an independent owned record store that has a variety of music than a large corporation that only carries new music and extremely popular old music only. I bet the only other Prince album that Target has in stock is "Purple Rain".

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I hope that people will just accept the albums, not worry about if its selling, because its not going to be a big seller, so lets get real and deal with it. Also the downloads and the 77 dollars sign ups dont count towards his sales, so i think you can honestly estimate this cd selling about 150,000 overall, not one week, overall.

You know Prince ain't doin NOTHIN unless he gets paid up front. lol

He has expressed his view in the past that his job is to make the music and it's the retailer's job to sell it. If they want to make money on it, they need to sell sell sell. There is no multi-year/multi-record deal for them to recoup losses on a future project, it's a one-shot deal for them.

And it's that way for Prince too. Which may explain why he's been hopping from one distributor/manufacturer/retailer to another for each of his projects since Rave.

Seems like once the bridge is crossed, it goes up in flames.

most places don't carry that anymore. maybe a couple of 'planet earth' if they didn't ship their unsold copies to a warehouse yet.

I preordered the cd through Target & paid xtra for next day shipping & I still haven't received my copy yet, I'm getting a little impatient.

Target said they'd ship it when they received it, but where is mine?

There are only 1600 Targets so they would have to sell 90 or so per store to hit that mark. What's more shocking is the amount of cd each store was shipped. On hand right now at a Target near you sits a backroom with literally hundreds of Lotusfloww3r cd's...last check on hand at a store in Houston..517!!!!

You know Target is praying that Prince goes on tour hoping that will spike promotional efforts.

Honestly? How do you know this? How do you know it's not going to be a big seller? Based on what? How is 150,000 "honest?"

You really only have 3 box stores that carry music with a decent amount of space in their stores, Target, Walmart and Best Buy in the US. I've walked into a couple of Targets here in the Bay Area and their stores did a nice job of promoting the cd. In both stores his cd is the only one they've place in the new realese section and a lot of promotional material around the store. Expect a huge tour to follow. Remember radio is dead and as long as you have the internet and a big box store like Target pushing his new cd, he will make a million a night in large venue tour when it follows. Its Sign O the Times all over again with the quality of the new music and artwork but this time we are going to get the full fleged tour here in the states.
