Nah, it will chart on Billboard.

It's 3cds but only being sold in Target, will hurt sales IMO!! Wal-Mart has many more stores than Target.

The rule was changed which allowed the 3 million copies that Walmart sold of the Eagles to chart, had they not changed the policy, it would have shook the industry and artists alot more than it did, but the policy change kept Soundscam in the picture.

As for PRINCE, who knows what it will do chart wise, does it really matter? It will debut than drop like something you have never seen before, and then we will all bitch and cry and say "hes not doing things right", even though he made his money on this cd already, whether anyone buys a copy on sunday or none sell

I think that anyone that expects a huge charting or run for the proposed singles is fooling themselves. Enjoy the music. Word of mouth will spread so Prince will do very well at the bank with this project... but I would shocked if this album that is only available at Target or on download (on his website) would be some kind of huge chart topper for Prince.

Also despite plenty of quality material, I doubt there would be any huge singles. That time is over and especially with the way; Prince chose to market this particular project.

I actually think $ and Dance 4 Me, and Valentina are the most radio friendly songs out of the bunch. Other songs like OSC, Dreamer, Boom, CM, C&C, UGCM & Ch Box seem to fit specific formats. However, again not sure how any of these songs will actually get to radio without a push from a record company

Here's another question along the same lines.

Since people who pay a membership to his website get to download the CDs, do the membership number count towards Soundscan sales?

good questions

but more importantly - who looks better on the covers? Prince or Bria?

in my opinion Bria does, because she does not need as much photoshop as Prince

then again he is 3 times her age so.....

She looks cross-eyed. Have another look!

Well said. This album will drop like a rock on the charts after the first week because there's no single on radio to keep people interested. There was a lot of Internet promo and he had these tv performances, but if there's no follow up to that, it's gonna be out faster than Planet Earth.

I remember that cause Britney Spears fans were pissed (it was the only other big release the week Britney's 1/10 hearted comeback "BLackout" was coming out. If it wasn't for the Eagles, she would have been number one even if she sold a fraction of what the Beatles did.

I can't imagine this will chart well. It's probably the biggest business Target will get to date for an exclusive (the Christina Aquerlia CD debuted in the Top Ten but didn't set the world on fire and overall is probably an embarrassing debacle since the song did little, too). I sort of don't care either because I got my copy and I'm fairly sure that if Prince is still feeling the muse (whether it is Jehovah or Mayte), he will continue to bring us new music. I only hope that he keeps making it affordable for the masses like this next time as well.

Wal-Mart, the largest company in the world, has always dwarfed rival Target ($406 billion in annual revenues vs. Target's $65 billion).

http://www.time.com/time/...33,00.html

think about it.

And Wal-Mart is the devil, too! I think Prince wanted to get the CDs to the masses but not at that cost. If he would have released it through Wal-Mart only, I would have maybe waited until the $77 price was more manageable and if not, I would buy it used. I don't know if Prince thinks about his image and hip factor that much, but releasing it through Target is much easier for me and others to accept. Prince will make his money but he doesn't need to be greedy and sell to just anybody, which is basically what you're doing with a Wal-Mart exclusive.

True, It's a lot like when they sell soda for 69 cents at stores and break even. These are come ons, used to just get a certain number of people in stores. They hope that people that purchase the Prince album will also buy a few groceries or other items and they will bank.

Sorry, I do love talk about economics!

This happens to be exactly the model that Best Buy uses for selling CD's. In fact, it's the only reason why they sell them at all. And why they are so cheap.

Or were. I was there yesterday and it looks like most of them are around $14.99 now. I don't know if they use CD's as a loss leader anymore or not.

Though "The Rainbow Children" is now $5.99 at Best Buy if anyone wants a really cheap copy as a back-up since when they're gone, this album will probably never be in print again lol

What BestBuy have U been 2 that has TRC for $5.99??? It's $13.99 online & in stores in the MD/DC/VA area!!!

It's nothing to get mad about. Wal-Mart has done a better job with exclusives vs. Best Buy, Target..etc. Look the AC/DC "Black Ice" album exclusive at Wal-MArt, it has sold 6 million copies world wide. I would love for P to do a 3 cd exclusive at Wal-Mart at some time. IMO he would easily sell 3 million quick and 4-6 million over a years time and if he bundled 3 cds just imagine the numbers!

What has Best Buy done?? The GNR "Chinese Democracy" exclusive I believe just moved barely 1 million copies. Sad sales with the 14 years of buildup.

Just enjoy the 3 new cds. Who cares about the sales until he makes a deal with Wal-Mart.

who's mad? confuse

and maybe Prince has ethical problems with Wal-Mart. I don't, and I doubt he does, but many people do. shrug

Target came to the table with an offer of what they were willing to give him / do for him, and it was obviously the most appealing.

He's done exclusives with Best Buy before as well. (The Rainbow Children, U Make My Sun Shine, NEWS maybe?).

He seems to like doing business with local companies. Best Buy, Target....

I think I bought "N.E.W.S" through Media Play but I could be wrong. I honestly think Prince could sell a Cd or CD set through Wal-Mart but I can't imagine it wouldn't piss off some fans and give him credibility issues.

Honestly, I don't think that's why he's doing this. I think he recorded 2 albums worth of his material, and wanted to get it out there as soon as possible(along with his currrent protege, Bria.) Target gave him the easiest deal to do it fast and make money off of it, so that's why he went with Target.

I don't think Prince records just to record. I think he's driven musically.
