Alternative ATWIAD cover artwork? A friend of mine is a fan of the artwork by Jim Warren. He used to collect trading cards of him and he showed me 3 cards that were called "Prince Commission". I don't know if this was commissioned before or after Around the World in a Day but I just thought someone else should see this painting.

And you really can't see it in the picture but the fatman has a symbol tattoo on his arm, the old 0(+> one like on the Purple Rain bike.

very cool...thanks for sharein this. I read the guys web site and it stated " "Prince’s management contacted me to do this painting. They gave me little information other than a one page sheet with thirteen instructions on it such as, "...a fat man hugging a tiger," and "...two men with hair shorter on one side, playing the tambourine." I am very curious to know what the other 11 instructions were... and who has this art work now?... did Prince keep it? or does the artist still have it? I guess Prince contracted out a few artist to create his "instructions" then picked from them. I would love to see the other choices as well. P luv

Probably something like we need a ladder, kids on a seasaw, a boy holding a flag, a woman crying on the pier, a woman wearing a raspberry beret, etc. Uptown had a story about the artwork in an old issue that talked about some of the things Prince wanted the artist to convey. But they didn't have this original tho. Mad cool. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

Eye think the whole experimental vibe is cool witht this album, the Artwork is very different, (both paintings) it reminds me of SGT. Peppers front cover (Beatles)
In fact, the music (concept) very much reminds me of the beatles album also.. any others feel that way?

In fact, the music (concept) very much reminds me of the beatles album also.. any others feel that way? I totally thought this album was very Beatlesque, especially when the music from For You to Purple Rain was very much one color. And then along comes ATWIAD and all of sudden there were rainbows coming out of the speakers. It blew me away when I seen the cover because I was expecting a picture of Prince and the Revolution still in the Purple Rain vibe and when I went to get it the day it came out I walked right passed it.

Here's some more info I found on this picture. On the back of the 3 collector's cards it pretty much said what it says on the link but it also mentioned that the list included "Paisley Park". And "a fat man with tattoos and purple boots hugging a tiger." Warren said that he had no problem finding a fat man to pose, but the tiger was a different story. "I used a stuffed plastic bag instead, and painted the tiger later."

That's an amazing painting I wonder why he decided not to use it for the album?

This painting is beautiful. I also wonder why it wasn't used for the album. I think it's a superior piece.
Wouldn't you guys love to see passed over art for the other album covers? I bet Dream Factory/Sign o the Times, for example, saw some really interesting ideas! Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I am in love with this painting. I like this so much better than the official cover. It's a wonder why he didn't use this. All I know is that I want a copy of this one.
