Lotusflow3r is Prince's best album since ______

I still have yet to listen, waiting to get it at Target but getting harder and harder not to d/l it first

From most reviews, think the answer is TRC but I did have one older gentlemen (in his 40's) state he feels its his best album since Lovesexy.

Okay, now the anticipation is boiling cuz there's quite a bit of good material in between then and now.

What say U?

It's still a little too early to say. I think 3121 was excellent, but I think I can safely say that, for me, Lotusflowe3r/MPLSound is the best this decade.

Whether it's better than The Gold Experience... I dunno.

So it's either the best since TGE, or Lovesexy.

It will take at least half a year, if not more, until I can give an answer to this question, because the way an album grows on you and makes you feel after you know it by heart is also very important. My first impression is very very good, though.

It's been the best first impression I've had since Musicology, or even TRC.

The first song I listened to was Dreamer from a Target ad. I would say Lotusflow3r is his best since a long while. nod

A very respectable record.

it's easily better than planet earth, which is a relief though it doesn't take much.

i think it's more dense and interesting than 3121, though i think 3121 makes for a more listenable pop album from beginning to end.

3121.

I wouldn't put it in the top tier with CD's like Sign O' the Times, TRC, 1999, Dirty Mind, Purple Rain, Lovesexy, etc., but I would put it in the second tier of CD's.

There is no career defining song like "Last December," or "Holy River" on it, but there are some classics. To be a top tier album, it must have one of those career defining songs, which is missing here, but there are a bunch of good ones.

Target ad? They've started airing? Or was this online or something?

I REALLY REALLY love this album. All I'm waiting for now is getting my hands on the retail version with the excellent Crimson & Clover in its rightful place. For me, the Target configuration will easily be the best Prince album since The Gold Experience. After I've lived with it for a while, that will most likely expand to since Lovesexy. Possibly even since SOTT. Did I mention that I REALLY REALLY love this album? worship

I agree, both albums have a certain 'edge' over the more 'pop' (but amazing) '3121' album. 'Lotusflow3r' does have elements of '3121' especially in the Intro/Outro.

Gold.

and that goes for MPLSound too. together, and individually, they're both his best since Gold, I think.

to me, this is the distillation and best version of what he's been trying to do with almost every major release in the last decade, since Rave (except TRC). but i did like Musicology and PE very much.

I would say that it's one his best albums ever.

It is very important 2 listen 2 this album through a good stereo system at home, and LOUD.

This album forced me 2 sit down and listen, old school style.

Just 2 show where I'm coming from, my fav Prince albums R:

1999
Parade
Sign O The Times
Lovesexy

since Lovesexy/Black Album and easily IMO

Its the most complete record in terms of quality of material and when I say this I am including Mplsound

yes better than Batman, Graffiti Bridge, D&P, Come, O+>, TGE, Musicology, 3121 all hit and miss albums and light years better than Chaos & Disorder, NPS, Rave, TRC, & the truly bad PE.

I tell you at PE I thought perhaps his studio skills may have been forever eroded... but knew I would still love him because of his live performance skills and of course his 80s material

I think that Lotus Flower is a slight stronger compilation than Mplsound but certainly not by much

Its been a minute since I could listen to an entire album. I played both CDs for my wife who is not a Prince fan and she said and I quote "now that's more like it... Sounds like he got that Planet Earth vibe out of his system!"

Lotus Flower can stand on its own also. Its that good and even if I didn't include Mplsound I would say its his best in a really really really long time

His best since Lovesexy and that's all time fav.

I really cant believe it. I mean i'm just so happy about this album (along Mplsound)

But as someone said it's need time to sink in more before you can really say it's his best in 21 years, but from it first several spins it's been up there. This is the fist since i cant remember when i have been playing a new album non stop over and over.

Just listened to this again last week.
We obviously like different things from Prince. It's also one of my faves.
I've prolly played N.E.W.S. more than Musicology, 3121, and Planet Earth. Not combined though. wink

Since Musicology - it's got that kinda quality with more depth.

Amazed at the amount of stickey songs that get stuck in your head...and they sound good ! smile

Best since Elixer.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.
