If Prince Went Back 2 Swearing (Cursing) In His Lyrics....

Do U think it'll make a big diffrence 2 how he is viewed? (popularity etc) I personally do not think this is the case...but was wondering if others fams do?
Everybody's looking 4 the ladder

I don't think so, certain curse words are cool to say, other can be vulger especially if said too much

He performed Irrisistable Bitch at one of the recent shows, I'm downloading it know, I don't know if the lyrics were sung or it was instrumental

I don't think people would view him differently especially if he explained why

i think he'd sound like a silly old man. as far as him being crass and vulgar, that ship has sailed. when he made the decision to "go clean", i think he pretty much set the bar for himself for the rest of his career.

Because it would seem like he was moving backwards and not in a positive way. I admired how he explianed himself in interviews on why he doesn't feel that he has to express himself that way anymore to get his message across and he's right. I really respect the person that he has become.

some of his best early albums don't contain any cussing:

purple rain
around the world in a day
parade
sign o the times
lovesexy

so it's not even like prince has always been cussing and
throwing around f@cks left right and center.

i could care less if he started it up again although it
would probably sound a bit silly now that he's 50+ and
has been "clean" for a good decade now. either continue
all the way through or cut it out. he cut it out and he
should not go back on that deciscion.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I still do not get how people equate being 50 with not having sex or cursing??

There is vulgar speach and then there is a swear word here and there

What is so horrible about that?
What does age have 2 do with it

Are U people saying 50 year olds don't curse?
And I'm not talking about low class 50 yr olds

I don't think the cursing is really needed. I wouldn't mind if he stopped censoring the sexuality/sensuality so much though! He can't even say 'it's mainly a physical thing!'

Cussin, throughout the Caribbean, is defined as sayin words such as fuck, fuck u, cunt, muddacunt, muddafucka, bloodclaat, bomboclaat, rassclaat amongst others dependin on which country u travel to. Sayin damn isn't cussin (cursing) and swearin is literally taken as sayin "I swear...".
So I guess it all depends on where you're from and how you're taught.

If Prince were to start back cussin at this point of his career where he's been 'clean' for so long, I'd lose respect for him.

The world seems to saturate the idea of sex for selling things. Love and Romance really seem to come in second when you look at everything.

I've been disappointed by life's presentation of relationships and the divorce rate is high...teen pregnancies are still high...and I think it's rare that two people make it to their silver or gold anniversaries.

Maybe every little piece helps. I know it isn't only Prince's responsibility, although I love seeing faithful and devoted love being the center of someone's message to the world.

I beleive that Prince believes in True Love...I just hope that Prince can see how much of an impact he can make with even a line in a song.

I wouldn't care. Actually I would gain even more respect for him if he did it, because that would mean that he finally understood what real freedom is about. If he knew he doesn't want to offend anyone by saying "fuck all y'all" or simply "we were da shhhhhit!" it is his business and, apart from that, it is true that cursing can give certain parts of a song a whole different, more interesting and haunting colour and atmosphere. As he is a musician it would simply mean expressing himself in his art.

I don't think a fifty-year-old who uses such words is low class if he does it in a way to express his art and knows that he is free to do it. If someone has a meeting with his boss he shouldn't curse, but an artist like Prince has every right to do so, no matter what age he is, and it would make the whole Prince world look a bit more loose and relaxed again.

And yes, I do think that he can't get certain messages across by changing some lyrics. That one line in I Feel For You made the whole feeling of the song get lost, in my opinion.

This post may sound very superficial, but what I'm trying to get across is that people should not bother at all and neither should he. I don't need songs with cursing in them, I just don't like the idea of limiting oneself's freedom "officially". If he thinks it doesn't fit his age or his latest songs: okay. It's his music and his decision. I just don't support saying "Alright, I'm not gonna curse anymore." In his case, he should do it when it helps his music and he shouldn't do it when he thinks it wouldn't help. I'm just saying that some live performances and even newer studio recordings would sound a bit more rough and funky again if he felt free enough to throw some dirty words in.

I hope you don't get me wrong.

that's not my point. i think for prince to go back to cursing would be like bowie going back to wearing ziggy stardust costumes or john waters making movies with drag queens eating dog poop. it was outrageous and provocative at the time, but they moved on. to go back to that stuff for them would look kind of silly and sad. i think the same about prince and songs like "sister" or "darling nikki". he can't go back to that kind of stuff at this point.

For years after seeing that movie, just thinking about that scene could make me pull a Linda Blair. That part of the film was rough. biggrin

Anyway, I don't care if he swears. I DO care if he says silly stuff like "We don't give a duck" or even the line in Lolita where he almosts says "shit" but then doesn't. Either swear or don't. Pretending to swear while bragging about how you don't swear is more unbecoming, if you ask me.

I don't really care that much, even though I'd love to hear certain songs live. Most of his hit songs didn't have curse words in them. With that said, if by some chance he did it, I would hope that he wouldn't feel the need to announce to everyone that he's back to singing "Sexy MF" the way that he announced that he was done singing those kind of songs. Just spring it on us and let us be shocked and surprised.

I agree, hes moved on and matured, not saying that 50+'s olds shouldnt curse i know many that do and of course its not wrong either, but its a decision he made to move on over a decade ago and it would seem like hes going back on himself if he went back to cursing, it would come over to me like he wasnt true to his beliefs in the first place.
