My only Prince complaint: Boring Guitars

How they look. Powder blue, Fury orange, Target Red.

Bring back the cloud guitar and the prince guitar.

Prince's guitars look pedestrian (even if they are not).

When he holds one, it looks as it would if Batman drove a corvette instead of the Batmobile. A corvette is a cool car, but it doesn't fit with the rest of Batman's look.

Same with Prince's boring guitars.

I actually can appreciate what you are saying. He certainly looks better with the cloud - but I dont think he has played that publicly in years. I never really liked the symbol axes. Oddly enough, the most classic guitar moments in iconic Prince guitar hero imagery usually invovle his oldest and least notable instrument: the Telelcaster (with animal print pick guard and strap of course).

Of course. This guitar is classic Prince and it forever shall be great in my book. Plus, the animal print gives it this glam slammin' gaudiness that elevates it from looking plain. I guess what I am saying is that it "goes" well with Prince.

I think the strat looks too big for him. Like a 10 year old getting his first guitar for Xmas.

It just dwarfs him a little. And when you're 5,2 that's not a good thing! wink

I agree. He looks silly holding a Strat.

I wish he'd bring back the Clouds too.

Prince's custom made Fender's are basically Cloud Guitars with a different cosmetic look & also features a 5-way pickup selector. U best believe if U see a Cloud Guitar again it was because of the buzz from the sites! Play it 2nite Prince, YOUR ORANGE CLOUD GUITAR PLEASE!

I'm more concerned with the notes coming out of the guitar, which are fantastic.

The yellow Cloud model is one sexy mother. And yes, his current fav guitar (nicknamed "Sonny") isn't visually appealing at all.

It is not about the look, it is about the playing, His sonic blue and target red custom fender strats are true works of art, with a Floyd rose and screaming EMG's. Which gives him the ability to play songs such as dreamer, shhh, and in general his more guitar heavy work due to the more powerful sound and the whammy bar. His hohner (telecaster copy) on the other hand is a great guitar for his legendary funk licks and his great creamy sounds for example when he does those santana like pieces at the end of some songs. His strats are more for rock etc and his hohner for his classic stuff where he does not need all too much guitar focus. His symbol was pretty much replaced by his blue strat "sonny" but that guitar as well was very well crafted. I never was a real fan of the cloud, i mean it looks good and all but it often was a little too bright for my taste (obviously also fault of effects and amplifier settings) But the tones he's reaching now are far better than with the cloud. Now if your interested in knowing how he gets his sound, he uses close to all BOSS pedals, a line 6 unit and digitech whammy pedal and a classic cry baby wah. His amplifier is a Mesa Boogie Heartbreaker/Lonestar- There is some dispute of which one he uses between the Heartbreaker and the Lonestar. I believe its the Heartbreaker

P has gone back to a more organic sound so I think the Strat kinda fits. Plus I'm sure the Fender guys were thrilled to see him play one of their guitars. They probably sent him more.

But I've said it before, I hate him with that Floyd Rose. His natural vibrato is waaaay better.

I noticed Prince's Strats (at least the light blue one and the red one) have different pickups than what Fender usually has. He's got a humbucker at the bridge and a single coil at the neck (not the standard 3-pickup Fender style). This is the same pickup design as the cloud and symbol guitars he's used before.

I think he's got the Floyd Rose for doing those "divebomb" string-bending effects. I used to have a Floyd on my old Kramer guitar, but if you broke a string, it would make the rest of the strings go out of tune.

I still think it's a little strange he's using real Fender Stratocasters, but still using the Hohner Telecaster copy guitar, instead of a real Fender Tele, but (from what I've heard) won't endorse the Hohner Tele model that he's played for years.

I built a Cloud Guitar a year ago with EMG 85 Humbucker & a SA Single coil configuration same as the Symbol,Cloud,Model C axes he uses. I also own a Hohner HTA490 tele. I fell in love with the Schecter Cloud I own when I first got it along with my other telecaster I built myself. But as of late when I plug up & play I go stright 2 the Fender Strat I own & then 2 the others. Although I don't have the same pickups Prince has on his Strats I love the way these things sound, I mean you can get cover almost every genre of music with them. I've only been playing 4 years now would grade my self on a scale of 1-10 about a 2-3 which is still very early in the learning process! Prince makes me keep with it!

I actually agree with you on this. I miss the cloud guitar very much and I loved the prince guitars too. They made helped make Prince look that much more unique and fly while playing them.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

You prefer those gaudy silly looking guitars? Maybe the peach is okay. The rest of those yesteryear ones (besides the only one that matters, the hohner) are akin ot those goth metal v-neck cartoon monstrosities.
