Rainbow Children - wow!

I sorta put off listening to this because of the "jazz" label it has been given , but I finally got round to it and I didn't realise it would be as accessible as it is. Theres some great tracks on it. Did anyone else feel the same?

I love Rainbow Children and have done since the first listen. Only part that irritates me is the computerised voice speech at the begining of Family Name. There's some fantastic stuff on that album.

Although I don't have a 'favourite' P song. I do throw that phrase around a bit. And 'Last December' seems to come up more often than most. Truely great song. biggrin

TRC gets a bad rap, but it's honestly one of Prince's most consistent, artistic, and creative albums. It's a breath of fresh air in his catalogue.

It wasn't the easiest album to get into. Mainly due to the narration.
But the songs definitely are great.

Totally agree with Typhoontip on 'Last Decembers'. The opening chords send chills down my spine everytime.
(Little Richard enters the stage)
Homer: Purple Rain!!
Little Richard: Shut up!
Homer (to Marge): Oh my God, Michael Jackson just told me to shut up!

If you don't take the lyrics too seriously, TRC is great.

I think a lot of people closed their ears once they heard the rambling Bob George voice talking nonsense and missed the fact that the album has some great musical moments, with some great musicians being featured.
