Funny how, with the exception of Planet Earth. This decade, every Prince album that comes out happens to be his best since... JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

From most reviews, think the answer is TRC but I did have one older gentlemen (in his 40's) state he feels its his best album since Lovesexy. Okay, now the anticipation is boiling cuz there's quite a bit of good material in between then and now. What say U? I say when the hell is a guy in his 40s a "older gentleman"? Does that concept make Prince a geezer now since he is over 50?

MPLS Sound is beyond fantastic and Lotus Flower in short is a little of everything... Dance 4 Me - carries Prince from the 70's to current time, a dance classic that will live on forever. Some of the songs on each album end quickly leading me to believe there is much more to come with extended singles? GMAN

i would say it compares favorably to The Truth or Come, these two are as flawed but still have their moments.

I like how there seems to be something for everyone here. If you take the best tracks I think you have an album that is as good as anything he has done this decade, if not better. Can't touch Gold Experience or anything that good. I like it better than Rainbow Children and if that is the case, the live shows are going to be great.
2 tracks from MPLSOUND + a few more tracks off of LOTUSFLW3R = a very short but good release a little too much 94.7 smoove jazz/lite funk/r&b for my taste and none of it is as good as FutureBabyMama which i did not really like either bring on the tour.....i hope it is for small venues though and he ditches the hits for good

livewire said: I REALLY REALLY love this album. All I'm waiting for now is getting my hands on the retail version with the excellent Crimson & Clover in its rightful place. For me, the Target configuration will easily be the best Prince album since The Gold Experience. After I've lived with it for a while, that will most likely expand to since Lovesexy. Possibly even since SOTT. Did I mention that I REALLY REALLY love this album?
Yep. The album just seems incomplete to me with that abrupt exit from "Boom" and no "Crimson & Clover". What the hell? This is the first time where I think he has truly put his mark on something that didn't possess his DNA. Yes, there are a few good Prince covers, I suppose, but the best ones I would argue sound just like the originals. And I own the originals. This, on the other hand, is something that can be covered by other people. He did the same thing for me with "Just My Imagination" and "Creep". Of course the originals are terrific, but even if you hate his particular smell, he added his own unique scent to highlight even more why the originals are held in such reverence.

It's been the best first impression I've had since Musicology, or even TRC. Absolutely. All we have right now are first impressions. That impression may go up or down, or it may stay mostly the same. But I guarantee that the knowledge mined won't; I don't care how brilliant you are. But, I know, we all have busy lives and without all the full cornucopia of flavors -- many of which don't seem to be revealing much more than psyche -- we wouldn't have the splendor of rediscovery (like the thread today about "TRC). It's all good, though, even the lack of humility and respect often displayed, which has absolutely nothing to do with enjoying anything.

Just listened to this again last week. We obviously like different things from Prince. It's also one of my faves. I've prolly played N.E.W.S. more than Musicology, 3121, and Planet Earth. Not combined though. I'm a fan of instrumental music so there ya go. me too! Return to Forever, Mahavishnu Orchestra, lots of jazz, fusion and straight up rock instrumentaln downtempo.... But I also like cohesion in my instrumental music. I felt NEWS wandered in a way that made me not want to hear it again. I already KNOW he can play. I always feel like he needs to play with cats that offer their own input as it goes if he's going that direction. Which is why his collaborations with Eric Leeds were pretty good imo. NEWS did not feel like a collaboration effort. Nor did it feel like it was thought out. More of a "look what I can do" sort of affair.
