I think it would fit on MPLSOUND. And fit well
I believe in horns!

It's far better than anything on the limp Mplsound. While the song is nothing more than an attempt to recycle Camille, it's at least a successful attempt whereas a song like Ol' School Company sounds like it was recorded moments after F.U.N.K., running on fumes after all the (reused) ideas had been exhumed.
No hard feelings.

why do people keep commenting (on various threads) that this song
would fit well on MPLsOUND?

it would fit well on lotusflower but not on this album. all the
songs on the mplsound album are too polished and linn driven,
one-man-band songs.

lotusflower shares the same organic, full band rock out fun and
guitar fest that's all over F.U.N.K.

considering that prince started work on lotusflower in 2006, it
seems very likely to me that FUNK was at one point intended for
inclusion on lotusflower. perhaps the only reason it is not, is
because it was rush released since it fit in well with the whole
PFU mess.

anywho, i've included it on LotusFlower on my player and it works
a treat.

the only thing from recent years that might fit on Mplsound would
be Future Baby Mama / Mr Goodnight.

FUNK sounds old and dated! Prince used Pro Tools on mplsound which makes it better!

I don't think so, F.U.N.K. works as a stand alone track and, as Istenszek said, has more a band vibe. Anyway i don't think at all it would fit on Lotuflow3r, the lyrics and the mood of this song is totally different from the rest of the album!

I hope you are trying to be funny. First thing. Its not the first time prince has used these kinds of effects before. The whole "he's discovered protools" thing sounds like a lot of marketing to me. Second thing, it sounds awful.

Feel Better, 77 Bev and and Love Like Jazz are just as jarring on Lotus and No More Candy For You, while being closer to the real Minnapolis sound than most of the MPLS album, doest fit with the rest of the contemporary R^B sound of the record either.

Imago

I don't understand why folks love F.U.N.K so much.
It's one of the best non-album tracks he's had out in the last 10 years, but that's not saying much.

Simple fact of the matter is I don't really remember what the tune sounds like and I've heard it at least a dozen times now.

Lotusflow3r songs, I remember easily after just one or two listening, and can hum them in my mind with no problems. This of course, doesn't make those songs technically better, but they certain leave a lasting impression which F.U.N.K fails to do except for diehard fans inclined to like it.

it does my head in when people say it don't sound like the MPLSoUND like they made it.

Prince made it and now hes updated it, this aint 84. this is 09 and hes wonderfully changed it to how he sees fit to what the MPLSoUND should be today.

as for FUNK, better on lotus but, even better as a one off.

YOu are right of course. I'm only referring to the god awful autotune. If you think Prince has never used DAW tools, thats just ridiculous.

F.U.N.K. is a classic if only for the fact that a 5'3", forty-nine year old Jehovas Wtness is threating physical violence! evillol

That said, I agree that it would fair better if it were on LF, not MPLSOUND. Prince used the Linn on Every. Damn. Track. for MPLSOUND. There ain't a processed electric rim in sight on FUNK. And as IS said, it was recorded with a band.

So false...

Also must agree that the track wouldn't fit on MPLSoUND at all.

BTW, if LF was started in 2006, do we know when MPLSoUND was created? Was it after LF?

It is still available on I-Tunes for 99 cents. The track is over 7 and a half minutes, so it is well worth it. Oh and it is a killer track.

False to the question but like you, I wonder why this wasn't included. It would have been cool on Lotusflow3r but it is what it is. I'm glad I have it cause it's great! music

I disagree. MPLsound does not sound "limp" in any way to me.
I very much enjoy Ol' School Company and do not feel it sounds as if it is "running on fumes" in the least.
