Solo made my mother cry!!!!! My mother ya'll wow my mother who dis-like Prince sooo much was moved by this song and it made her cry. This is really amazing. I'm still shocked of what I've witnessed.
My mother is a very strict muslim woman who's very tuff to please and convince and her going through my musical stuff was kinda odd becoz she's not intersted on them at all, hell she don't listen to music at all, she used to listen 1 Arabic music and thats all. Anyway, she asked me to play something 4 her and I went through Prince CDs trying 2 bumb something that gorwn folks dig. I thought about "Dark" becoz its blusy but changed my mind at the last minute and played Solo becoz I LOVE this song sooo much and the lyrics are soo over-blowing, you could live the actual song thats why I played it. Alright here we go: At 1st- & At 2nd- At 3rd-: At 4th- At 5th- in the end when he was saying "My name,,,iss,,,NO1" RIGHT THERE when my momma brokedown and cried. Damn, that was a powerful moment 4 me becoz my mother is the tuff chic that rarely cry and when cries then it won't be 4 a stupid reason. It was powerful When I saw her crying over some song by some1 she don't like. Just needed to share this wit ya'll. [This message was edited Sat Dec 7 10:48:43 PST 2002 by Harlepolis]

Whoa! That's deep Harlepolis... That goes to show you, the Man has music that can touch anybody. I can honestly say, I've never met someone whom dislikes all of his music. Blue

Alright, I have to confess something here... I think of myself who knows quite a lot of Prince's music...yet, I haven't listened to Solo all through until recently.
It's amazing. I don't know if it's really good, musically, but it's just impressing that he has the balls (and the tslent)to do such a song. Singing lesson... TheBluePrince: You're right, I haven't met anyone either who doesn't like at least one of his songs.

Solo makes my stereo cry, as it is the worst mastered song I've ever heard in my life. I'd never heard a CD clip like that before that song.
The song itself is OK though.

That's beautiful Harlepolis, truly... sounds like your venture into "Prince's" music is becoming quite profound and beautifully so. No matter what/or with whom, music does have the emotional power to move our souls. What a true .

Its funny that a non-fan enjoy a song that hardcore fans don't like. --- People like cherryloon don't like songs because of the way they are masterd or recorded. A real fan of good music just listens to the music and the words. Solo is a deep song and the singing on it is beautiful. It is to bad that some people are to anal to appreciate it.

Always loved SOLO.
I have found that a lot of p fans don't like it at all. I guess they can't get over the sparse sound/arrangement, but you are right about the lyrics & the delivery. He is d o w n and it really comes across. I have heard a lot of ppl say that they hate the way it sounds with all of the reverb, but I just picture him singing all alone in a church like on the cover of the Come album. I'll never forget the first time I played that album, he had just done the name change and when he sang "solo... my name... is... no 1..." I said out loud: "oh shit" -GREAT song!! "Hyperactive when I was small, Hyperactive now I'm grown, Hyperactive 'till I'm dead and gone"

Its funny that a non-fan enjoy a song that hardcore fans don't like. There are just too many people here who just have to put down everything that is posted. There's always a negative reply to EVERY post. If Prince created a song for his father or mother who have passed away, I'm sure they would put that down too. Anyway, that was a nice story u decided to share with us. "Solo" is a beautiful song that shows off Prince's vocal range. It is beautifully composed too, especially the string instrumentation.

My mom HATED prince. Just the sight of him made her cringe. Back in the 80's when I lived at home it was difficult to listen to him on the family stereo (much better than on my 2 watt boom box).
Years have gone by and now she's confident I haven't turned gay, or thrown away my education to become a rock star, so she's toned down her hatred of Prince to mild disgust and it's become a smaller sin that I still buy his music, and I just might slip my way into heaven. All this to say that I've started a little game with her and in the end I know I'll win: I regularly send her some mixes of music she likes, (i.e. Tony Braxton, Celine Dion, Enya, Nat king Cole etc...) every now and then I slip a Prince tune in there. She of course never recognises the singer and sometimes calls me up to see if I can get her the entire CD because she liked the song. When I start laughing and inform her it's her favorite imp on HER stereo, she hangs up the phone. The latest Prince intrusion was "She Loves Me 4 Me". I know she likes the song but still won't admit it. It's her fault I love Prince anyway, she used to listen to pirate copies of James Brown concerts while she was pregnant with me on her reel to reel (some of you won't know what that is). Voila, P.S. I think her favorite Prince song is "With this Tear" (oh well).

DMSR247, I totally agree that someone would put down a song written by Prince for his parents. I said I love the song Last December because it reminded of my nephew who passed away and Tom put up an emoticon like he was going to throw up. Ya think Prince fans would have a lot more love in their hearts.
