The more I listen to Chocolate Box (yes alexandernevermind and the others I argued with about this track, it gets better in the second half with more instrumentation esp the staggered keysynths that accompany the refrain, but back to my point...), the more I listen to Chocolate Box the more I think about those songs that Prince has written that could easily be sung by a female.

First off, the song features a gender flip in that it is the man who is the object of the woman's desire, and he's telling her basically if you want to get with this, "suga nothin here comes for free."

Then lays down some questions/conditionals... "if she ain't making bank / scared what a brutha has to say" asks what kind of car you drivin, proclaims it takes a "real woman," and complains about feet hurtin.

Without trying to stereotype, traditionally and easily, these are all things that we find women saying to men in popular music: if you want to get with me, nothing comes for free; "if HE aint making bank and scared what a SISTER has to say"; asking what kind of car he's driving; it takes a "real man"; and certainly complaining about footpain in some sexy high heels.

And of course there is chocolate box... leaving urban dictionary definitions out... Prince has used the box imagery before to refer to a woman's genitalia--with Sheila E's Toy Box.

This isn't new for Prince to do of course--he's often written songs that could easily be sung by a woman with a few he/she changes... songs whose imagery in fact is usually more fitting (traditionally). (Sex Shoooter comes to mind with all its gun/shooting/phallic references as something that could with a few switches be sung by a male).
