Do you even know what you are saying. This performance has nothing in common with Musicology. I have a watched this performance of "Dreamer" twice and I am begining to think some of you have hearing and eye problems.

Anyone with rudimentary reading comprehension skills can see that the post you're referring to was discussing OSC, but thanks for playing.

Loved Dreamer, still, I think Fury on SNL topped it. Prince just looked the part a little bit more on SNL.

Given some of the responses in this thread I have a question? Do fans of veteran rock artists like Paul McCartney expect him, at this point in his career, to come out with music that rivals or surpasses the best work he did with The Beatles? Or do they just expect well-crafted refinement of their existing musical legacy? Just asking.

paul mccartney still acknowledges his past and indulges his fans in the occasional round of nostalgia. paul mccartney is open to collaborating with some of today's most creative musicians and producers. paul mccartney has stayed loyal to the same causes he's been vocal about for decades.

so i don't think it's fair to compare paul to prince. smile

LOL. The comparison would have to be with a living veteran rock artist that still produces at least SOME music and that tours/performs occasionally. I'm not bringing up another specific name because that detracts from my main point (as per your original response). The point being that outside of "Princeworld" I don't see veteran artists expected to be as "revolutionary" and "surprising" as they were in their prime. Most people seem to be pleased enough by pleasant reminders of their glory days.

Prince Indian Gives Guitar to TMZ Staffer
Posted Mar 27th 2009 11:42AM by TMZ Staff

Hey everybody, Daniel from TMZ here. So last night Prince gave me his guitar ... and then some guy took it back.

I was lucky enough to sit front row during a taping of "The Tonight Show." I was there for one reason, and one reason only -- to see Prince. After suffering through Paul Giamatti and Emma Roberts, Prince came on and performed "Dreamer."

As the song was winding down, Prince took off his guitar and walked out into the crowd -- I had no idea what he was doing. He walked right up to me and just simply handed me his guitar and walked away. I stood there stunned for about 20 seconds while my friend Trent went nuts. We both kinda strummed the guitar before I turned around and held it up to the crowd triumphantly.

After another 30 seconds or so, someone came around and retrieved the guitar. Now, I was all excited about this whole thing -- calling and texting everyone I can think of. But when I came to work today, everyone said the same thing -- PRINCE OWES YOU A GUITAR. I believe Harvey's quote was, "You're a schmuck for giving it back."

So here's the question, does Prince owe me a guitar?

http://www.tmz.com/2009/0...z-staffer/

And then there's also a poll question that says "Is that guitar mine?" YES or NO. So far 84% have responded with YES lol

This was so cool for Prince to do but hell no he doesn't owe this dude a guitar lol

A lot of y'all in here are saying that tonight's going to be Bria's turn to perform and that may be the case but I wouldn't be shocked if Prince performs instead. I say that because he used 2 different bands to play the last couple of days, he has 1 more band, the John B and Rhonda S band and I can totally see him performing with them tonight. It would make sense because he has 3 bands for 3 shows tomorrow night and as much as he's promoting the albums, he's promoting Saturday Night's show too. I don't know what's in store but this seems very logical to see Prince perform one more time tonight. nod

Yeah...I can't really see him giving up tonight's slot to Bria. They booked him.

Maybe a jam session of sorts....we'll see DREAMER has me tossing and turning and damning the airlines prices !lol

The cool part about that expectation (which is rational, and NOT negative... lol) is that if Prince does perform or show something that is completely different than anything he (or anyone other legend, like Hendrix) has done before, the reaction from most of us as an audience will be so much greater now. thumbs up!

-----
"the reaction from most of us as an audience will be so much greater now."

That is such B.S. were you around when TRC and that jazz cd came out. The negativity was overwhemling. Most music fans today do not have the attention span to handle anything innovative or different. Your living in fantasy world if you think otherwise.

"B.S." Really. LOL. Well, I was little and wasn't a member here back then. lol Besides, except for a few songs, the jazz of TRC and that era wasn't anything new musically anyway, just like "Dreamer" isn't now. I bet whatever negativity U are referring to is similar to the statements I initially opposed in this thread, with people not enjoying him sounding "old hat," or sounding like someone else.

Since I've been here, I've read people applauding unique songs Price has done recently (2004-present), for example, "The Word." But I guess I shouldn't generalize his audience and believe most would appreciate him creating new and completely original musical sounds (which TRC does not really exemplify), 'cause the processes of hearing and understanding his music are relative within his fans.

If you don't like the song or Prince fine but do not make yourself look foolish by knocking this great performance. It is great for all of the 5 mins he getting on T.V.

I'm pretty sure the poster was referring to the Old School Company performance the other night.... not Dreamer from last night

Actually, there was a lot of very positive reaction to TRC on the org when it came out. Many fawned over it, including many people described as "haterz" by the "fams". (I remember the day of the download release, WellBeyond going on and on about how great Blackwell's drumming was, and pretty much everyone agreeing.)

Most of the criticism that there was centered on the perceived non-inclusiveness of the religious references, overuse of the Bob George voice, and belief by some that there was misogyny (and even racism) in the lyrics. That stuff made the ablum a bit of a lightning rod.

Xpectation wasn't so well received, but then again, it wasn't particularly musically creative IMO (especially with Xenophobia not included).

C-NOTE OTOH had a lot of positive reactions. Same with bits of ONA studio and N.E.W.S..

Many people on this site will give him props when he breaks the mold musically.

He wrote and recorded most of his 80s songs in a very short time. Must have been lazy from the beginning.

Nothing compares to Sonny and Michael. Prince was playing the mess out of his guitar. He rocked it!!!! He looked much better than wed night. He seemed more playfully confident and strong. Dreamer sounded incredible live OMG i cant belive it, old school company pales in comparison but both sounded great. I cant wait to see what he brings tonight!!!!

When you say "this time period," do you just mean these two new albums, or are you including the last few releases as well?
