I can say the same about you bitching about last night performance cuz everything you said is so fucking wrong. Last Ol Scholl c ompany was tight as well and this tune translates into an amazing new funky anthem live.

Period.

definately gotta disagree there.... Old School didn't translate well last night from the studio version. I couldn't put my finger on it and many of us were discussing it all day... because the studio verison of that song is sick.

Gotta agree with Murph here! By the way I'm not saying last night sucked I'm saying given the grove of the studio cut I was taken aback by its flatness performed live...

Nothing, since JW claim "not to be part of this world". Prince should shut his mouth about Political topics now.

Purty much.

Also couldn't help but to notice the irony of him calling out AIG, whilst telling his "real" fans to pony up 77 bones for a subscription to a half baked website.

But I digress.

You do indeed digress because that comparison lacks some intelligence. It was plain what you would get for 77 dollars before you bought it and everyone got what they paid for. And Prince isnt obligated to satisfy naysayers when any projected returns - 3 albums were promised and 3 albums were delivered. Prince is not about greed amd deception - never has been.

That Ol Skool performance has grown on me - and that song is among the funkest that Prince has ever done. I didnt like the 3 gigantic fat chicks and that jerk harmonic player but it was vintage Prince funk. How can you hear that Prince funk guitar riff and not bob your head?

Both of these versions were excellent. The Thus Spake Zarathusa jam harmonies at the end of Ol Skool were the cherry on top. Also good to see Michael's still piling in the pies - although he's so big he makes Prince look like he exists in the eighth dimension.

I cant believe people like this. It just made me sad. Its over. He cant do it anymore. Sure, he plays the guitar amazingly well. He's a very very good musician, but its a tired uninspired song that goes nowhere.Same as last nights funk work out. He can write both those songs in his sleep. There is absloutely NO innovation, inventiveness or songcraft in these songs.

Do any of you remember when he wrote amazing SONGS???? Was it all just wendy &lisa? No.Because the songs were there before and a little bit after. But genius? No. Maybe during 80-87 but apart from a couple of really nice songs since, nothing has aproached the HEIGHTS of that period. Not even close. Especially these songs.

Dreamer sounds like Fury, but not as good and that wasnt all that. Its like people dont want to remember how groundbreaking and inventive he used to be. I have moved on.

This is the first time in 25 years i wont be getting the cd's on the day its released. Yes i will get them eventually. yes i do ant to hear it, and i hope i like some of it, but the spark is gone and the days of him being a giant to me are over. too bad. i thought he would grow with time, but instead he's gotten smaller. Much smaller.

What in the hell do you want him to do?
Are you effin' kidding me?
These cd's are very inventive. Wake up honey! While I do not mind other peoples opinions, I just cannot wrap my brain around this one at all.

I thinkit is interesting that Prince has enough sidemen to make up 2 different bands working for him in these 3 days on Leno. I mean when was the last time you saw Sonny T, Mucheal B, and Morris Hayes together behind Prince? I think it shows the importance of capturing the vast range of Prince's work. The music is so varied and extensive that it calls for the Power Trio on a song like Dreamer and another lineup for Ol Skool. I expect to see Bria tonight as there should be a song from her album. That is probably going to require yet another lineup.

I just watched these two performances again back to back, and really, they're not even close.

"Ol Skool Company" was definitely a mess and came a bit undone towards the end. The whole band setup setup was all over the place and distracting. I know the 3 background singers & drunk harmonica dude are supposed to bring energy and give off a party vibe, but it just didn't do it for me. The whole thing felt a bit contrived, down to P's trying-to-sound-young-and-hip-slang thrown into the lyrics or ad libbed. For the record, I haven't heard the album version yet, so my first impression of the song wasn't all that great. Based on reviews, I'm keeping my hopes up.

"Dreamer" was night & day different. Much better performance all around! I've read a lot of folks say it was b/c of Michael & Sonny, but I'm not so sure. Take a look @ that stage. No background singers. The harmonica dude stayed more in the background. It was really just about that song and the tightness of the performance. There was an intensity and just general ooomph that was missing the night before. Who knows if it's b/c P connected with this song better...or the band as a unit did...or he just had a better night...? Whatever it was, it was better and gives me some excitement about seeing the new material played in the upcoming shows (please, for the love of whatever you believe in, no more "Play that Funky Music"!.

I definitely don't get the point of the harmonica...at all. I don't think the sound (forget the guy) added anything to either song. "Dreamer" sound would have been even more sparse and sounded more intense w/out it - listen to the verse after the breakdown around the 2:47 mark...and picture that w/out the harmonica. ooomph!

You can call me a Dreamer! That song is badass boy! Prince rocked the hell of that one. The Target commercial was some nice frosting for the cupcake. A wonder if a Bria duet will be the final performance or will be jam one of his songs and one of hers. Regardless of that, without hearing the albums yet(can't wait for Sunday)I think Prince has his mojo on. There is some of the Ole School Magic left.

Yup, your eyes automatically go towards him. Cora is more than capable technically, but she doesn't have the bass drum individualism or charisma of Michael. No-one hits a snare like him.

Bland's snare always sounded like a gun shot to me. I love that guy. I woudl still have trouble choosing between him and Blackwell as my favorite Prince drummer - eve though most choose Blackwell.

Just saw the Target commercial,..for a commercial that is awsome!

That is the first time in the LONGEST time i have seen anything on film or video from Prince to look so professional.

And what i love about it is they incorporated all the images from that sorry ass album cover and made it look awsome.

My point is that no matter what imagery Prince is looking for or can imagine, he can realize with the incredible talent pool of artists out there. Everything doest have to be done so in-house.
The costs and results at the end of the day will come out about the same, and you will always get what you pay for. (EMANCIPATION)

For an artist that likes to look good and likes to wear designer clothes he sure dresses his music in ugly ill-fitting homemade Wall-Mart duds.
since 1992 -present anyway

Have you ever been to a George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic concert? Sometimes messiness adds to the funk.

holy crap that was amazing! so I guess 2morrow will be Elixr and maybe a few hits since it is outdoors?

Love Michael B. Also love Cora and John Blackwell. If anyone knows anything about drumming - you would know Cora is the real deal. Hitting the kit hard is cool but does not mean one drummer is better than another. I saw Cora up close (4 feet) at 3121 Jazz Cuisine and she is truly gifted. Please, if u do not know much about drummers - do not comment on them. It makes u look silly.

No one is saying Cora is not a capable or gifted drummer. She is just boring and not on par with other drummers he has had in the past. Two different things; being technically proficient in a musical instrument does mean one automatically has that je ne sais quois, or a certain charisma. Like I said before, Prince must want her and Josh to be his "boring" back up band because I'm sure they play exactly how he tells them.

A lot of y'all in here are saying that tonight's going to be Bria's turn to perform and that may be the case but I wouldn't be shocked if Prince performs instead. I say that because he used 2 different bands to play the last couple of days, he has 1 more band, the John B and Rhonda S band and I can totally see him performing with them tonight. It would make sense because he has 3 bands for 3 shows tomorrow night and as much as he's promoting the albums, he's promoting Saturday Night's show too. I don't know what's in store but this seems very logical to see Prince perform one more time tonight. nod

Good performance, better than the previous night.

Would be kind of an anti-climax having the last night as just Bria (given the downtempo material on the album), so I'm guessing if she performs, Prince will also do a track after - at least one hopes. smile
