Better!!!! Heck no. But it was cool. I was kind of disappointed. The solos weren't as good as I thought they'd be... and someone needs to tell harmonica guy to shut the hell up.

After seeing that performance of "Dreamer" tonight, "it was better than fury"....love the lyrics:-D Would love to see him play "Dreamer" live. [Edited 3/26/09 22:16pm]

I was thinking the same thing... Prince ripped it tonight, and tore it up last night... since he's doing one song from each album... that makes tomorrow night Elixer and I'm scurrrred I would love to hear that performed live. Change it one more time..

He kicked the dog sh*t out of it, and kicked it again and again. How's that, Gray? But I still love Cora's playing. She came a long way from when I first saw her play at the Nokia, in NYC in 2006. [Edited 3/26/09 22:20pm]

Was Michael B. wearing an apron? That man was chopping it up, so I guess he needed some protection.
To me, he just unleashed two songs on Leno that thrill and amaze. Absolutely ridiculous. But more importantly, their studio brethren are far, far better. And I'm sure in his own concerts where he'll have 8-10 minutes or more, he's going to break some strings. Which all means that I don't have to make fucking conditions about having to watch "SNL" or track down some concert bootleg. The version I'll be listening to for the rest of my life is already in my ears. == screw being able to type == [Edited 3/26/09 22:21pm]

Bland indeed killed it..."Dreamer" was overall a strong showing from Prince and the stripped down band... But the lackluster feel of Prince's 1st performance had little to do with the drummer's (cora) skill and more to do with the SOUND of the drums...Prince has to learn that songs using the darker-toned Linn drum do not translate well "live" with live drums....The groove came off as "Oprah funk" because of this... All this to say, that "Dreamer" worked MUCH better.... In the future Prince needs to break out the Live Linn triggers when it comes to the heavier Linn sounds... But yeah...he gets props for tonight...Major props...

On the real, I can understand the beefs some folks had with dude's 1st performance on Leno (Ol School Company)...it seemed unfocused--everything from the background singers to the translation of the orginal groove from the album (it doesn't work live WITHOUT the Linn drums and slower, grittier pace)...As someone said, it came off as that "Oprah funk" instead of the MPLSsound.... But "Dreamer" translated perfectly live.... I can honestly say folks complaining about that performance are just piling on... I can say the same about you bitching about last night performance cuz everything you said is so fucking wrong. Last Ol Scholl c ompany was tight as well and this tune translates into an amazing new funky anthem live. Period.

no you are not the only one and I'm convinced that was part of the problem last night. There was no problme last night. This Cora hate is totally absurd. She is very tight now an she does the job perfectly. But of course, you seem to have a better ear than many of us and Prince himself. [Edited 3/26/09 22:51pm]

Michael B. kills Cora on Shhh, too. No one is saying she is a bad drummer (she's a professional musician after all), she's just boring as hell and not on par with Michael, Sheila or John. But she is better than Bobby Z.!

Another solid live performance from Prince. He needed some redemption after last night and bringing back what is arguably his strongest live band to support him was a wise and surprising move. It's a shame this grouping never recorded a real studio rock album.
There are only ten interesting minutes on all of Lotusflower and lucky for Prince tonight, five of those minutes are Dreamer. [Edited 3/26/09 23:02pm] No hard feelings.

Old School didn't translate well last night from the studio version. I couldn't put my finger on it and many of us were discussing it all day... because the studio verison of that song is sick. Gotta agree with Murph here! By the way I'm not saying last night sucked I'm saying given the grove of the studio cut I was taken aback by its flatness performed live...
