The Creep Cover Appreciation

All the hate for this track is kind of ridiculous..

I love the dreamy instrumentation.. It is absolutely amazing. Granted, he does kind of butcher the vocals, but the actual music is arguably better than the original's.

Just thought I'd show some love.

Exactly. The guitar was amazing. Along with the drums.

heartily disagree. messing up the lyrics really gets in the way of appreciating it, IMO. Nice guitar work, though.

as his covers go, it was really good.

as live covers in general go, it was interesting.

but to say it sounds better than the original? oh, no no no no. no no no!

Sorry chaps. I disagree. biggrin I've listened to the original both live and on CD. It doesn't have the ethereal quality Prince gave it.

well, you and i can both be right, you know. that's the magic of opinions. lol

i think prince brought something unique to his live cover of the song, but i don't think it quite hit the bullseye of how the original song - the words AND the music of radiohead's version - was meant to make the listener feel.

radiohead's version makes me want to sigh.

prince's version makes me want to go, "cool! prince is covering radiohead!"

lol

Strange that the amount of covers have become more and more..I think to cover a song is nothing for an artist of the caliber Prince.Otherwise it can give a sign that he only plays for fun these days and that the innovative caractere of his music has faded away. This doesn't mean i don't like the covers but Creep is not my favourite.

for me the original was depressing, not to mention you can hear it on any classic rock station these days

so when prince covered it, it quickly became the only version which i can listen to anymore

love it

Far and away, the worst part of this cover is the "Shoo be doo..." section.

That's just lazy.

But wow, the guitar is just amazing. I can't help but notice that. The drums are also a big improvement on the original's...(They produce a deeper, richer sound to my ears.)

This is all just my opinion. razz

i do not think making the listener feel the same way people feel when they hear the original was Prince's goal

in fact, i think it was almost the opposite

Prince made it uplifting although the original is a classic

Originals I can't listen to anymore because of Prince:

Well sorry it's done already. P turned this very average tune that Creep is into some decent tune.

The fact is P's own musicianship and his band's are better than Radiohead's musicianship and that makes the difference at the end.

Sometimes it's not about musicianship. Better musicianship does not always equal a better performance. In a lot of ways it can hinder it.

For me, he really missed the point of the song, both musically and lyrically. It was almost an arrogant dismissal of the original.

When I heard it the first time, I had to drag out Pablo Honey to remind myself that it is actually a fantastic, raw song. Not the soul muzak drawl that Prince turned it into.

I normally like his covers, but it's clear, that when it comes to Radiohead, he should leave well alone.

i like the sound and atmosphere of it. not better than the original but cool.

one thing that's a shame is his vocals on this one. he seems to swallow half
the words or run out of breath as he sings.

it's the same thing that happens 80% of the time he does "dolphin" live. it
is almost as if he runs out of breath and stops lines half way.

oh and how can people consider prince's take on this song to be
more uplifting than radiohead's?

he's changed the lyrics to "YOU'RE a creep" falloff disbelief

I totally disagree with you. It turned this tune into something very emotional. Wait to watch it in great quality and you'll understand.
wink

I like radiohead but Radiohead are way overrated.
