Lovesexy cover. Sexy or embarassing?

I don't mind the nakedness, that's bold and cool. But I gotta say, the flowers are just too much.

Although the flower boner to the left is pretty funny!

If I was posing naked, I'd be embarrassed.

But since it's not me... i'm fine with it!

I have alternate artwork for it in my iTunes CoverFlow. I'm OK with it if someone sees it on my CD shelf and picks it up; seeing it pop up randomly while scrolling thru iTunes? No.

My mom's reaction to that cover was, "Well, he's certainly no Charles Atlas."

I love how behind-the-times her references are.

Me, I didn't find the cover sexy or embarassing. It fit the artistic package Prince was presenting at the time.

my parents bought it for me back in 1988 when i was just 11 years old lol
they didn't seem to mind. but this is holland, so, you know.

i was kind of ashamed though when 7 years later, my parents had a big group
of people over and there were a few little kids running around the house.

they went through me bedroom and this album with a few others was lying on
the stereo system. they looked at it, went "ewwww" as kids do and ran down
to the party yelling "lars has a picture of a naked man in his room!!!!"

falloff

i nearly got a freakin heart attack because i'm gay and i wasn't out yet
so i figured the little mongrels might have dug deep into my desk and eh
found my stash of porn, lol.

but thank god my mom just yelled above their voices "oooh, don't be like
that. that's just prince".

which made people look at me even more bewildered. in the end i had to go
and get the album for people to understand.

once they saw what all the fuss was about they were kind disappointed lol
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

You have to be a really secure man to buy that CD. Which I have twice in my adult life. lol lol

I will be honest though. the Nude/lovesexy tour was my first concert ever. When he came out in what appeared to be a mini skirt I was embarassed to be there

Actually, it didn't. It gave it that bad not-stocked-in-certain-stores vibe instead of the wow-if-that's-the-cover-what's-the-music-sound-like vibe. Good controversy/conversation sells records and this one didn't sell.

exactly... people looked at that cover and said... I'm not buying that. It was a terrible and ridiculous decision

To this day I have turned the booklet to the inside cover ... White with the words Lovesexy written on it to be the cover. The other week my niece was going through my old school albums and when I saw her going through them I knew that was in there and I took them away from her

That's how horrible I think that cover is

He did himself no favors with that

One of Ps best covers is the Parade cover... it looks like art

Lovesexy was an example of taking the narcissistic self indulgence over the top

I love the fact that Lovesexy was one of the first cd's banned by Wal Mart, even though this killed the album commercially. It's interesting that this religiously-themed album, which pushed aside the so-called "dark" Black album, was the one banned. Some Americans can be so confused.

The cover art represents the symbolic themes of rebirth represented in the great music.

whatever it represents its not how people recieved it

everyone knows what it was supposed to mean. Did it ever occur to you that the cover completely distracted from the music and made the record less accessible?

What you think by showing a rebirth Prince has to be naked looking like a naked woman with hair on her chest and sitting on a huge flower with the head of a penis strategically placed in one of the flowers blooms?

Please... bad move. Thats not the way you get the word out

Art doesn't have to be about getting "the word out" or "accessible." It seems as if you are only concerned with consumerism or commerce. I bet Prince wouldn't change a thing about the Lovesexy project. It's his vision. And your puritanical and conservative gender views are opposed to the humanistic themes of Lovesexy. Have you heard the title cut or When 2 R In Love?

Stop the foolishness

It was a bad move. It was banned at retail stores and sold covered behind counters at record stores! As a result it failed to reach as many people and instead of getting positive attention it garned negative attention because nobody wants to see Prince sitting naked on giant flower with a dick next to his head eek

Give me break... The cover was obviously over the top. There were plenty of ways to show rebirth... that one was obviously a bad choice and frankly the album which is a masterpeice IMO deserved much better

Lastly I did not say it (Lovesexy cover) wasn't art... I said that the Parade Cover was. I will also say that the Parade cover was far more tasteful. Also that cover has nothing to do with Lovesexy the song or When 2 R in Luv. Those songs are about the love and lust between a man and a woman.

Your right though Prince would not change a thing... doesn't mean that it wasn't a bad move wink
