I imagine if so, it would be on top of the plastic (I know in the UK and maybe elsewhere, CDs, don't have plastic wrapping, though). Disappointed there is no booklet and it's barebones, but what are you going to do? Didn't realize that the "Planet Earth" b0ook was on Prince's old site...pain in the ass....

for 12 bucks at target? for a 3 CD set? really?!? Target (and many others) charge $9.99 for the latest single disc new release and that is considered a great price....There exclusive deluxe editions with a stupid making of the album DVD and maybe some alternate cover...at least $4 more! 3 CDs of original material....a bargain for sure. You realize if you buy an album download it is...$9.99 only for the music with no CD and no artwork (MAYBE a digital booklet but often not). You can make these 3 CDs into MP3s later. I swear people bitch about the stupidest things sometimes. Considering that his last few albums have been in similar packaging, I really don't see what the problem is or why anybody is even remotely surprised that it looks this way. For only $12, I really don't know what people were expecting because I was expecting the artwork (if any) to look much cheaper than this. Since I can't play the album packaging in a CD player, I really don't give a shit what it looks like? Seriously, for $12, he could have put all three discs in a ziplock bag and written the title on that baggie with a purple sharpie; as long as the discs play, I'm good. It's the music I'm paying for not the album artwork, but that's just me. Plus, he just released a whole book with nothing but photos of himself in it, so what's this need for pics in the album...just go and buy the book. I know..aint the bitching tired by now? I remember people were complaining that there were TOO MANY pictures in the Musicology book Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Seriously though, I'm amazed folks thought that this was going to have some fancy booklet or something. It's a three disc set for $12! In order to sell at that price, the packaging would have to be minimal. Besides, in this day and age, most folks get their music illegally on the 'net, with no packaging whatsoever. Those that do pay are getting music off of sites like iTunes (still no packaging there). The day of the CD is pretty well done, so we should be pretty durned happy that there is a physical disc at all. The time is quickly approaching when albums will only be released digitally. Prince has had plenty of commerical missteps over the years, but this ain't one of them. Selling a three disc set for $12 is smart (now, if you wanna bitch about him trying to sell a fanclub membership for $77 during a recession...) It's been a big trend to stop doing Jewel cases in the industry per say. It cuts cost for one, and keeps money for the big wigs and artists. And it helps the environment. It's exactly what I thought it would look like. Cheers
Oh and if u desperately need a jewel case, buy some , print art work, and there u have it yourself. (sometimes we find the most worthless stuff to complain about, seriously) [Edited 3/26/09 5:22am]

(sometimes we find the most worthless stuff to complain about, seriously) [Edited 3/26/09 5:22am] For me, the big issue is not the digi-pack so much, it is the lack of care in the design of the packaging. Especially this time around. I was hoping it would be like George Michael's 25, but no need 2 complain since all 3 albums are really good. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I remember people were complaining that there were TOO MANY pictures in the Musicology book Well, those individuals would have been really pissed by the package that held the free copies that were handed out at the "Musicology" concert; but for just the cost of a ticket, I got a kick ass 2 and a half hours of Prince live, who was less than 10 feet from me, and new music. I'm not going to be a twat and complain about cheap and/or free music just because I don't like the package it's put in. I'm glad he's not doing the jewel cases anymore, because like many have said, they are bad for the environment...if feel bad because I threw away a large garbage bag full of them years ago instead of recycling them . They take up space and are pretty useless if you put all your CDs in a CD bindercase. Plus, don't we all know what Prince looks like by now? Why do we need to see lots of photos of him everytime he releases an album? He'll be on Leno for 4 days in a row so we'll get to see lots of him until the album finally comes out on Sunday. Paper thin packaging that is a pain to keep looking nice. he is not only determined to have his image removed from youtube but the past decade's packaging has also been a sneaky campagn to get us to remove his image from our shelves completely. his discography was looking very nice up to 1998 and then all of a sudden it's nothing but digipacks, rave white plastic, download albums and cardboardish coasters. i gave up. i just put my entire cd collection in a box and ripped everything to my harddrive. with all the different formats or special edition cardboard shitties a record collection these days is more like a landfill than a tidy, easy on the eyes library. It's a pity he has stopped with the nice packaging and special editions of his albums. Not to say everyone else is doing and so should he, but really the fans get nothing. I suppose I should just chalk it up to his JW minimalist nature as well as he thinks we are polluting the earth with junk. Christian Zombie Vampires
